Designed to celebrate the Volvo Ocean Race—a grueling, around-the-world challenge that is one of sailing's premier offshore events—a special edition 2015 Volvo XC60 made its first appearance recently at the Miami International Auto Show. Per the brand, the 2015 Volvo XC60 Ocean Race model "pays tribute to the courageous men and women racing across the oceans, with special design elements that truly embody the soul of human challenge in the special comfort of a Volvo."

That includes a nautically correct exterior finish described as "Ocean Blue II," along with exclusive 18-inch wheels, special "Volvo Ocean Race" fender emblems and deco inlay, and a leather-appointed cabin, in black or blonde, with orange contrast stitching. Also in the mix: a distinctive startup logo for the 2015 Volvo XC60's "Sensus" control screen and orange-stitched floor and cargo mats, complete with official "Volvo Ocean Race" rubber tag.

And if all that doesn't float your boat, remember that the Ocean Race XC60 actually is from the brand's updated "2015.5" model-year lineup and comes standard with Volvo's new 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine with both turbocharging and supercharging. Mated to an eight-speed "Geartronic" automatic transmission, that engine delivers 302 hp and 295 lb.-ft. of torque in the 2015 Volvo XC60, yet also enables EPA grades of up 22 mpg city/30 mpg highway/25 mpg combined.

Additionally, since the special edition 2015 Volvo XC60 model is based on the T6 Drive-E trim level, it also comes standard with navigation and six-month complimentary subscriptions to Volvo's Sensus Connect technology and On-Call suite of telematics, which combine to offer high-tech connectivity features that include a mobile wi-fi hotspot.

Plenty of cutting-edge safety features are available for the 2015 Volvo XC60 as well, as is a new Harmon Kardon audio system, and the Ocean Race versions will be priced at $42,100 (or $43,600 with all-wheel drive).

Note: The 2014-2015 Volvo Ocean Race will visit 11 countries as part of its nearly 39,000-mile route, including one stop in the States, in Newport, Rhode Island, in May of next year.
