    2006 Volvo XC90 - FWD

    Pros: Anti rollover.

Cons: Ride, performance, cheap interior materials.

Advice: After much research, I've found that the cars have multitude of problems and are way expensive to maintain. You're better off going with a Subaru Tribeca, Toyota, or Honda. Volvo has turned into cheap, overpriced garbage.

There was vibration in the steering at anything above 50 mph. The vehicle was not quiet.

    2005 Volvo XC90 - T6 SR AWD

Pros: Ride quality and power, when it runs.

Cons: No reliability, poor interior ergonomics

    Advice: stay away

The Volvo dealer would not even buy our fully loaded 2005 XC90 T6, that is what a piece of junk the XC90s are and Volvo knows it! We have 6 cars including Ferraris, Hondas, Jeeps, Pontiacs. Volvo buyer beware, the only thing good about the XC90 is the ride quality. However ride quality does not matter when the driveshaft fails(twice), the left front strut fails(twice), tires wore out at 20k miles, and the left front axel seal failed which leaked all the oil out. Not to mention little things like the defroster barely works(and also failed) and the seat heaters mysteriously turn on. Then there are the interior ergonometric issues - try taking a family to McDonalds, there is no place to put stuff. I emailed Volvo a 65 item list, and suggested they require their engineers to drive a Toyota or Honda for 6 months of ergonometric research before starting the next interior redesign. We put up with the XC90(for 35,000 miles and 18mo), the final straw was when we were leaving for a family vacation and the axel seal failed – leaving us stranded on the freeway. I would not trust this car any farther than I could throw it. After we were stranded, my wife and I went out the next day and purchased a Toyota Sequoia. We are now in HEAVEN – everything works, nothing breaks.

    2006 Volvo XC70 - 2.5T

    Pros: The GPS navigation system.

Cons: Placement of the cruise control on the steering wheel--I keep inadvertently hitting it and turning it off.

Advice: If you hate SUV's as I do, buy this car. You will be very happy with it.

As a confirmed lover of station wagons, yet finding the Dodge Magnum slightly too much for my wife, we settled on the Volvo XC70, finally giving our 1995 Buick Roadmaster a rest. Years ago we owned a Volvo sedan and wagon, and were happy with them--not ecstatic, but happy. The XC70 fills that role well--it is well-made, quiet, responsive, safe, and all that Volvos are reputed to be. It is head-and-shoulders above the quality of the old Buick, I am sad to say, but lacks the excitement--I was in love with the Buick, with all the excitement of old Detroit iron, but can never be as excited with the Volvo. Dependable, safe, economical, well-made--yes to the Volvo. I am glad we have it, and look forward to years of motoring comfort. But I will always fondly and wistfully remember our old Roadmaster....

    2006 Volvo XC90 - FWD

    Pros: Self dimming mirror

Cons: lights dim when they wash

Advice: Drive it you'll like it

Once again, I am more than pleased with the quality, comfort and reliability of teh Volvo Line. I find I must go back to these cars, time and time again. Having a number of physical problems and having to drive great lenghts at times (10-12 hours) no other car can compare. The seats and positioning is outstanding. HAving rented all different cars, all sizes and shapes, nothing compares. I'm getting 19 mpg in mixed driving and using mid grade with no problems. Would buy another in a heartbeat. ALthough this one is an automatic, I miss a stick shift, even in this size car! I still have my trusty 1999 S-70 and love the manual as well.

    2005 Volvo XC70 - Base

Pros: Hard question, if forced, I like the seat comfort and interior roominess.

Cons: I haven't found it yet.

    Advice: Enjoy!

I like the way the car holds through corners in traffic. There is no hesitation when leaving a light or when passing on the freeway. The comfort makes it possible to stay in the cra for longer stretches on trips to the in-laws - why would I want to get there more quickly...

    2004 Volvo XC90 - T6 SR AWD

    Pros: Styling

    Cons: Performance

Advice: If considering purchasing - I hope you like time shares with the mechanics

Cam Shaft replaced. Valves replaced. Wheel Bearing replaced. Tie Rods replaced multiple times. Stereo has a mind of its own. Head gasket replaced. Manifold gasket replaced. Headliner and carpet have come undone. Approach lights that light the interior floor board do not always shut off. GPS also has a mind of its own - starts working without turning it on. Brakes are making lots of noise at 20,000 miles. MPG is now at 15.6 which is NOT the all time low.

    2004 Volvo XC90 - FWD

Pros: Safe construction of the body

    Cons: Traction and stopping

    Advice: Change the tires immediately

The stopping and traction on this vehicle are the scariest of any car I have ever owned. The ABS is so senstive that if come on when not needed and does not stop the car in a decent fashion. With a couple of inches of snow the car will spin out at every corner. It reminds me of the rear wheel cars we used to have. It does not track well. This year I will replace the Michelin tires with proper snow tires to try and improve performance.
