Pros: Luxury and Performance
Cons: High maintenance costI have owned my 2004 Touareg (V8) since new and enjoyed every moment of ownership. All aspects of the SUV (power, construction quality, comfort, etc.) are outstanding except the high cost of wear items, e.g. brakes, rotors, etc., but this is a small price to pay for a vehicle that provides so much joy to drive. Although the Touareg weighs in at 5300 lbs., the 310 HP motor will provide plenty of power to propel the SUV from stand-still and roll-on in a manner that almost makes you believe you are in a sports car. By the way, I also own a BMW M5 that I enjoy driving but for all purpose driving I pick the Touareg.
Pros: The style
Cons: That the car did not make it to 100,000 miles without major repairs. This car has been the worst car I have ever purchased. I have purchased 16 new cars from BMW to Jeeps. I have had close to 8 thousand dollars in repairs over the past 6 yrs with this car, from drive shaft, ele issues to tranmission and 4 CD players. I will never buy another VW.
Pros: V8 engine
Cons: service and maintenance
Advice: Do Not even Think about buying this vehicleWorst vehicle ever made 1.poor tire tread life, 15,000 miles, 2. Tire pressure readings constantly signals flat tire 3. worst service of any manufacturer 4. 4WD failed at 20,650 miles and never been offroad 5. A/C whistles cant fix 6. EPA gas mileage is high as we get 12-14 mpg 7. very expensive oil and filter changes 8. VW technicians do not know how to fix 1/3 of problems on this car 9. VW will take you to rental car store while the Toureg you paid for is in shop. WOW!
Advice: everythingGod help whoever spends this money for this suv. I have a 2004 V8 - numerous electrical problems, tires that cost $1200+ for four and VW service that sucks. I'm stuck with a vehical that cost way too much for the problems I've had and the service I receive. BUYER BEWARE!!!!!!
Pros: Great looks
Cons: Overly complicated controls
Advice: Look beyond the beauty and ride and read as many reviews as you can. This is my 5th SUV and in my opinion, the Touareg is over engineered to the point where it's dufficult to manufacture and operate. The Nav controls are numerous and it's c/d based which, makes it about 4 years behind the SUV's VW is trying to compeate with. The SUV is absolutely beautiful, inside and out, and rides very well. In a dealer showroom, and after a test drive, it's tough not to highly consider this vehicle. But, once you have one its shortcomings and oversights become apparent. An oil & filter change at my local VW dealer recently cost me $160. (oil, filter and labor only!) My local Jiffy Lube doesn't carry the filter so they couldn't do it. As pretty as it is, I can't recomend it.
Pros: Offroad abilities, handling in inclement weather
Cons: The Electronics, diagnostic sensors, radio reception, brake noise, a/c whistling
Advice: Do Not Buy This Vehicle VW service is questionable ethicsThis has to be one of the worst mistakes I have made purchasing a car. It drives nice and is comfortable in inclement weather other than that. 1. To numerous to mention diagnostic malfunctions 2. Electronics flicker 3. Early tire and brake wear 4. Brake noise 5. Rear hatch locking, rear wiper noise 6. ALOT of recalls which don't seem to repair anything 7. RECALL on safety systems including seat belts and traction control (no warning light illuminated when it goes out) 8. Battery replacements 9. Climate control useless 10. Sub standard VW service and a real don't care attitude about fixing the vehicle, in addition I don't think they know how to fix the vehicle. Don't waste your money
Pros: feeling of Safety
Cons: Gas Milage
Advice: Great car and I am very satisfiedI've put about 3,000 miles on the car already and I love the car. I bought a fully optioned car with navigation and air suspension. Car handles great, engine sounds musical when pressed hard. Down side is the gas milages. I bought it knowing it has poor gas mileage but with the high gas prices, it costs me around $68.00 to fill up with preminum gasoline and it does not last me a week. Also with so many warning chimes and lights, sometime it is bothersome. Car being so heavy, it feels cumbersome to drive as well. I miss the simple cars like Honda where you turn on the car and drive.
