Pros: the V6 engine
Cons: the gas milage
Advice: Beware of the gas milage claims
This is a truely comfortable car to drive. I've owned the 4 cylinder also and the V6 is much smoother and quieter and plenty powerful. The fit and finish are excellent, although I have had some problems that are a little concerning to me such as the passenger window falling into the door, and the springs under both seats falling out. Minor, but irritating. The biggest surprise has been that the car does no better than 278 miles on a tank of gas, far short of what was claimed. I drive 148 miles each way to work, and have not gotten 300 miles from a tank yet.

2002 Volkswagen GTI - VR6
Submitted on 11/20/2001 11:09:00 AM- Summary
Pros: The VR6 Engine
Cons: Entry to the backseat is a bit weird
Advice: Wait for the 2002 version which is supposedly going to have even more horses
Traded in my $35,000 (96 prices) 3-series BMW for a 2001 GTI and this car kicks the BMW's ass. Have had the GTI for just over a year now and have had zero problems with the car and it is still a blast to drive. Quality, performance, comfort, style, and features are comparable or beat cars that are much more expensive.

Pros: INTERIOR ROOM
Cons: Outside mirrors should be enlarged
Advice: Buy it before the price goes up
Kudos to VW for making a compact and roomy auto that is fun to drive. I am 6'3' tall and I have plenty of head, sholder and leg room. The car has plenty of cargo room. Acceleration and handeling performance are outstanding for any vehicle, particularly one priced less than $25,000. I have never owned a VW befor, so long as VW continues to provide this kind of quality and value, I will be a loyal customer!

Pros: tightness of the car
Cons: Turbo noise from the engine
Advice: Drive it on an open road to check out the noise level
It's a great car...just too noisy. The turbo makes the engine sound loud.

2002 Volkswagen Cabrio - GL (M5)
Submitted on 8/15/2001 3:38:05 PM- Summary
Pros: exterior looks
Cons: performance, safety, drurability, everything!
Advice: Don't buy it!
I purchased a 2001 Cabrio, automatic, and all I have had is problems with this car. My air bags don't function properly. My air bag lights keep on coming on indicating that there are problems with the car. The gas mileage is horrible and the a/c is not cold at all. I took it in and they say that it is normal when other cars, by far, have much colder ac. I had a saturn before this and it drove wonderfully! Don't buy this car. It is the cheapest convertible out there but it is not worth it!

Pros: Very quiet cabin
Cons: Body roll
Advice: Buy it in base model and put some 16 or 17 inch perfromance wheels on it.
The interior is awesome. Not cheap at all, very Audi looking. The violet dash lights enchant me everytime I use the car at night. Plenty of room in the car. The brakes require very little effort and the abs stops straight. The automatic shift is a little sluggish. I prefer the tiptronic mode, to get the extra power quickly. The Monsoon stereo is awesome. The gas mileage is very good considering it uses premium fuel. The suspension needs some stiffing. It leans alittle to much. This might be from the soft sidewall Michelins, 195-65-15.
