best vehicle I've ever driven
Cons: back-up vision not very good: needs a back-up cameraincredible car: confortable, luxurious, fast. no bad features
Pros: navigation system
Cons: tyre pressure system warning lights up when not always needed and has to be reset by VW
Advice: buy it!My first impression was WOW and so was my second and third and so on... I love the fact that there are not too many on the road and I get such a kick over people distorting themselves as they drive by to get a better look! Unfortuneately, I did not purchase this car- my mother did, a month before she was diagnosed with lung cancer. After she passed, my father gave it to me. My mom really did have great taste!
Pros: Incredible rear leg room!!!
Cons: Automatic trunk was not standard.
Advice: Don't let the label stop you from buying this incredible vehicle.I compared the Phaeton to all the usual suspects (Audi A8L, BMW 745Li, Mercedes S430, etc) and found the Phaeton to be every bit the luxury car that the Audi, Bimmer and Mercedes were...yet its cost was significantly less. I also enjoy the fact that I rarely see one on the road while the others are a dime a dozen. A unique car for a unique driving experience. It does not have the 'snob appeal' assocaited with most luxury autos but to me that is a plus. You do get plenty of attention though as every where I go people are constantly stopping me to get a look at the mystery car from VW and they all walk away impressed.
Pros: Build quality
Cons: Navigation System has not street names.
Advice: I dare you to drive it and compare it to any other car under $150,000.I've had my 05 Phaeton for just about 4 months. As chance would have it, I special ordered it in April and it arrived in August and was the first 05 delivered in the USA. It's a wonderful car overall with a few exceptions. The navigation system is just awfull for an $80K plus car because it does not have street names on the display which makes it almost worthless. Rumor has it that an update is coming that will have street names. Long overdue and should have been it to start with. That's the major issue I have I guess. It handles great for such a big car. It has lots of bells and whistles that make it a blast to drive. Before this I had a Lexus LS 430 which was well made but about as boaring a car as I've ever owned. Prior to the Lexus was an S-Type Jag (to small for me and lots of problems). I've also owned big Benz and big BMW which were ok, especially the 750IL. The Phaeton is a unique car that few will get to appreciate. Not just because of the price tag but because they will be to 'upidy' to even go and drive one. I can tell you that if one is in the market for a high end luxury sedan, then you MUST go drive a Phaeton. I opted for the four seater and I'm glad I did as it's beautiful. The is NO other car this side of a Bentley or Rolls that is as pretty inside as my Phaeton. Every time I get in it, I smile. The sound system is the best I've ever heard (upgraded system). It's even better than the Mark Levinson system in the Lexus and I thought that was the best I've ever heard and I guess it was before I got my Phaeton. It will blow you away! This is just no distortion and the sound could not be clearer in my opinion. For those of you who are 'badge buyers' rather than buying a car for what the car is, I challange you to go and test drive a Phaeton. Most dealers will let you keep it for a day or two for 'qualified' buyers. I'm willing to bet it you do, you will be one of the next ones to post here how awesome this car really is. David Gulf Breeze, FL 05 Phaeton / Green over Sonnenbeige/ 4 seater / V8
Pros: When people say: 'This is a VW?'
Cons: Should have gotten the optional power trunk lid closer. Trunk lid has no place to grab.
Advice: Great deals available on this car if you don't need the snob factor of other premium brands.Smooth as silk drivetrain and ride...somehow a nice mix of BMW sportiness, but less harsh, Lexus smoothness with more driver communication, and mercedes solidity without the stodginess. Geat highway ride, very fast w/ strong brakes. Awesome interior, the best of all the luxury brands.
