Getting firsthand information from an actual car owner is one sure way to get an idea of car performance once it leaves the lot. Autobytel features real consumer reviews that give the unbiased experience of a car.
As Volkswagens go, this one has been relatively trouble-free. The most expensive out-of-pocket repair I've experienced in 8 years was $1400 (build-up in 2 of the engine cylinders). Prior to that, there was recall item covered under warranty. Beyond those items, maintenance hasn't been too pricey. The car is comfortable, performs well in the city and on the highway and is good on gas. Big trunk + fold-down rear seats = tons of carrying capacity when needed.
I'll drive it till the wheels fall off!!
Pros: That is a hard one to isolate! There are too many great features to pick one.
Cons: The FM radio. Goes in and out of bass. The satelite radio works great.Although I had a few minor problems and one BIG problem (all covered under warranty) (new engine at 31K miles) This car has everything I was looking for in a delight to drive vehicle. Power, fantastic handling, comfort, amenities, and great gas mileage to boot (33+ Hywy @ 74mph cruise control). I have the Passat 3.6 Luxury. 280 HP provides plenty of performance, the HiPerf tires are a little pricey, but they do what they are supposed to in a performance handling car! It is an absolute delight to drive this car - across town or on a long trip. The auto trans has options too: Manual shift, Sport shift or reg. auto-trans.
Pros: Great driving performance with very good gas mileage.
Cons: The FM radio - changes bass and treble tone levels on its own.
Advice: Don't test drive it unless you can afford to buy it - you WILL wan to buy it!This is the best car I've ever owned! Luxury, Sport handling, fantastic power, very good gas mileage (33-34 on Freeway @ 74mph.) Talk about a 'looker' too! Bought it with 6900 miles on it; had some problems in the beginning, but all fixed under warranty and all is well now. I'll drive this car until the wheels fall off!!! A friend of mine also has the same car but his is a AWD 4-Motion Sport Edition; mine is a Luxury. He and his wife feel the same way I do about the Passat 3.6.
Pros: tire pressure
Cons: lot of lag before it starts pick up the speed
Advice: don't buyIt was all great when I bought it. The catch is the dealer, no one can repair the VW other than a dealer. The car is so over enginnered you will see lights come on for wranings and every light need to be diagnozed, it is atleast 100 dollars just to diagnose. It is not worth it. It is only 8000 miles already spend 100 dollars for a diagnosis and 800 dollars on fixing the stupid enginnering.. Learn from the Japanese, buy a honda or toyota
Cons: 16 in wheels
Advice: buy it it's a great car for the price !i fell in love the moment i drove it.
Pros: Low pressure tire warning
Cons: No homelink
Advice: Give it a try. You'll be surprisedI bought my Passat new in January, 2006. Frankly, I was surprised at the 'get up and go' this car has. The Passat has it all: roomy passanger cabin, large trunk,up to date mechanical features. Overall, a great car for the money.
Pros: Push To Start Inginition
Cons: No Ipod jack.
Advice: We have a 2005.5 Audi A4, pre lux carwith out the pre lux price.Purchased a 2.0T model with Option #1. Plenty of power, nice look, absolute head turner on the freeway.
