2005 Volkswagen New Beetle - GLS TDI (M5) Hatchback

Pros: Heated seats, large dash, cruise control, power

    Cons: front cupholders

Advice: Buy a diesel because it gets great gas mileage (40mpg city) and be sure that you really want a car that will hold only 2 people comfortably. Buying new is worth it.

This car was so much fun to drive. We took it up in the foothills close to our home and the salesman demonstrated the ABS, tight turning radius and power up a hill (even though it only has 100hp)! It's lots of fun to drive and the heated seats are great. You don't need leather because the seats are comfy and leather is high-maintenance.

    2003 Volkswagen New Beetle - GLS 2.0L (M5) Hatchback

Pros: handling, braking, interior layout, overall looks, awesome diesel fuel economy

Cons: Glovebox latch & lower plastic engine cover. Glovebox latch keeps breaking. Had it fixed once already, it broke again.

Advice: Get the diesel (50 MPG) get the mods (i.e. VanAkin Box) & lose that factory stereo. Remove the lower engine cover during first oil change and leave it off.

I bought the 2003 Turbo diesel model in Nov. 2002. I have just under 70K on the odometer as of this posting. I have driven quite a few cars and I have never had a car that handles the road as well as this car. There are a couple of quirks about the car that can be easily corrected. For instance, if you drive the diesel beetle you should get something called a Van Akin Box. Other mods; window tints, a good Mp3 player stereo, with subs of course( 2 10's fit behind rear seat nicely) What that Van Akin box does is give you 30% more HP & Torque. The car is so well put together, that the car gives me a sense of piloting a plane. I liked the fact that the dashboard is so unique, most GM cars put together these days are using the same dashboard layout for all models. There is so much cool stuff packed into this little car. Although it's not without its minor flaws, I do consider this car a masterpiece of Art & Technology. I'm looking forward to getting a convertable version of the diesel beetle. Maybe they will fix the glovebox latch design. :)

    2004 Volkswagen New Beetle - GLS T (M5) Convertible

Advice: If your scared about the car, buy an extended waranty.

Best car I ever bought. I have had many cars, including custom built cars.

    2004 Volkswagen New Beetle - GLS T (M5) Hatchback

    Pros: Performance

Cons: Sun glare through the windows.

Advice: Make sure that you are satisfied with the fact that it is a 2 person car (truly so).

Performance and handling are excellant! It would be nice if VW would get into the 21st century with in-dash CD, however.

    2003 Volkswagen New Beetle - GLS 2.0L (M5) Hatchback

Pros: Fun to drive in the city. Quick and responsive.

    Cons: It isn't a Jaguar.

Advice: Forget the specs. Try the diesel version. You might be pleasantly surprised!

I have an '03 Turbo Diesel, manual five speed. I was skeptical about the performance given the horsepower rating, but I gave one a try anyway. This is a great metro car! Once you get used to balancing the low end torque with the turbo boost, it's surprisingly spunky in city driving. It'll reach highway speeds comfortably and reasonably quickly, but it really shines at zipping along city roads. The diesel starts easily and runs quietly and cleanly. As a fun little metro car, it's great! VW isn't kidding about the 50MPG, either. No problems at all.

    2003 Volkswagen New Beetle - GLS 2.0L (M5) Hatchback

Pros: Tie - Body Style and Great Ride

Cons: If I had to name one...the rear hatch cannot be opened by key, only button on driver side door or remote.

Advice: Do not buy used, buy new. Splurge a little and get the alloy wheels and the sunroof (you'll be glad - better looking, better ride). You will be surprised at how much you will LOVE to drive this car!

I have a 2003 GLS 2.0. I pretty much bought this car on a whim, without much thought. And boy am I glad I did! Do I really have to mention the body style? It is obvious that body style is this car's greatest strength. And I have to add that Platinum Gray is a really cool color for this car. It looks so...sweet! It's fun, it has 'go' power, and it handles corners like a champ! Exterior: I love alloy wheels, really adds to the look. Foglights are a plus also. Interior: The front seats don't just 'bend' forward, they kind of lift and move forward - it's easier than most 2-door cars to access the backseat. The lights on the dash are pretty different in a good way - purplish and red. I also recommend the Monsoon sound system (standard on GLS I think). It sounds great. I also like the doors directly under the window - they are the body of the car - material and color. Really adds a nice touch to the inside. The cup holders near the dash are better for cans than bottles, but does anyone really care? I also recommend leather seats. They really take the quality of the vehicle up a major notch. I've sat in a Beetle with cloth, though, and it's also nice. No negatives about it, it's just that the leather really kicks butt in this car. The sunroof adds a nice touch as well, you won't feel like you're driving in a 'bubble.' Overall - you definitely won't be sorry! Buy it you will love it! It's one of those cars that once you buy, you must take all of your friends and family for a ride to rid them of any Beetle stereotypes they might have. They will be surprised to find out how much they like it too! Even though some may not want to admit it trust me they really do like it! P.S. - This car has a horn that is kind of bigger than it's britches, for lack of a better term! If you have any worries that large SUVS/Trucks may try to take advantage of you on the road, just give the horn a try. It definitely does its job and then some.

    2002 Volkswagen New Beetle - GLX (M5)

Pros: The roomy interior, the big dash and front window, and my moon roof!!

Cons: Having to buy premium unleaded gasoline - too expensive.

Advice: Great car, but test drive it really well.

The GLX Turbo is fast and fun to drive, handles very well. I have only had my Bug for 2 weeks, but I love it so far!!
