2005 Volkswagen New Beetle - GLS (M5) Hatchback

Pros: feels very roomy and safe.

Cons: small center console, monsoon radio system.

Advice: its a great car, it was my first car!

i love this car! true some things may be a little small, but in all honestly you get used to it quick. the back seats are actually quite roomy (maybe not for large adults), but my friends can sit very comfortably. The turning and brakes work VERY well. There is a lot of bang for your buck! It is also wonderful that you can fold down the back seats, making it almost like a little truck. I even helped my best friend move! Wonderful car!

2005 Volkswagen New Beetle - GLS TDI (M5) Hatchback

    Pros: Fuel Economy

    Cons: In the shop frequently

Advice: Buy toyota do not buy a VW

Have extreme difficulty backing up due to the position of the rear side walls, can't see around them. Also have had it in the shop twice now for starter ploblems. It stranded me in town, all electrical things worked but would not turn over, it has 30,000 miles on it and this has happened two times. The starter wire that goes to sylanoid the first time and this time the starter had to be replaced but they only repaired the damaged starter wire this time. Also had to have the radio replaced and rear speaker replaced, and the hatch release doesn't work half the time.

2005 Volkswagen New Beetle - GLS (M5) Convertible No Package

Pros: Operation of the semi-automatic of the top is excellent. Very easy and a quick operation.

    Cons: Nothing yet.

Advice: You need the Front End cover if excessive highway driving. Road debris takes a heavy toll on the hood and fenders. I have one on now.

Very satisfied with performance. Overall build quality is excellent so far. Ride has a very stable feel and comfortable. I've owned this for 4 months and 5,000 miles and have not had to return to the dealer for other than the first oil change. The back seat is fine for 2 kids. Trunk space is limited, but who would expect anything different. Gas mileage is fine, but not the best considering the size. I average 24 MPG so far. Driving in bad weather was fine during the March snow storms. The front wheel drive provided a pretty good grip on the snow and slippery roads. Dash board controls are easy to figure out, but reading the owners manual thoroughly is essential. I'm really enjoying it so far.

2005 Volkswagen New Beetle - GL (M5) Hatchback

    Pros: LOOK OF CAR

Cons: OPENING TRUNK AND DIFFICULTY WITH TOP

Advice: BESIDES BEING CUTE ALOT OF FLAWS

PURCHASED 2005 BEETLE CONVERTIBLE 2 MNTHS AGO. TOP IS HORRIBLE. DOES NOT CLOSE EASILY. I WAS LOOKING SO FORWARD TO OWNING THIS CAR SINCE IT FIRST CAME OUT NOW NOT REALLY THRILLED EXCEPT FOR LOOKS OF CAR. OWNED TO PREVIOUS JETTA'S WHICH I THINK WERE MADE MUCH BETTER. ALSO HATE THE TRUNK YOU HAVE TO DIG YOUR FINGERS UNDERNEATH TO LIFT UP. VISIBILITY OUT BACK IS BAD TOO. TOTALLY DISAPPOINTED

2005 Volkswagen New Beetle - GLS TDI (M5) Hatchback

Pros: Heated seats, large dash, cruise control, power

    Cons: front cupholders

Advice: Buy a diesel because it gets great gas mileage (40mpg city) and be sure that you really want a car that will hold only 2 people comfortably. Buying new is worth it.

This car was so much fun to drive. We took it up in the foothills close to our home and the salesman demonstrated the ABS, tight turning radius and power up a hill (even though it only has 100hp)! It's lots of fun to drive and the heated seats are great. You don't need leather because the seats are comfy and leather is high-maintenance.
