After already spearheading the current Volkswagen renaissance, the brand’s compact contender—in the form of the 2014 VW Jetta—will help introduce a cutting-edge telematics platform called VW Car-Net. Pricing starts at $17.99 per month/$199 per year, and includes:

  • Automatic crash notification
  • Roadside assistance
  • Stolen-vehicle location assistance
  • Agent Destination Assist, allowing VW Car-Net specialists to send nav directions directly to vehicles
  • A “Last Parked Location” feature that shows a vehicle’s last-known parking place
  • Remote vehicle status updates, so drivers can check the state of their vehicles’ doors, lights, sunroof, hood, trunk and, where appropriate, convertible top
  • Service appointment scheduling

In addition to the 2014 VW Jetta, the brand’s Car-Net system also will be providing competition for services like OnStar in the 2014 Volkswagen Passat, Tiguan, CC, Beetle, Beetle Convertible and Eos.

The party line from Frank Weith, general manager of Connected Services for VW: “Volkswagen Car-Net is a multifaceted connectivity system, seamlessly integrated into many of our cars. Not only does it offer our consumers an added sense of security with features like automatic crash notification, but it also offers various convenience features for day-to-day use, such as remote vehicle status and service appointment scheduling.”
