2002 Volkswagen Jetta - GLS L (M5) Sedan
Pros: Get'up, brakes.... also my leather seats.
Cons: That the Stereo is so hard to upgrade
Advice: Test drive everything and don't settle for anything... and ask questions... remember that it is a German car... so somethings my seem weird, but it was built for Germans.Excelleration is great while maintaining good gas milage. Materials are top notch. This car is not meant to be abussed, if you buy it make sure you have the extra little money to spoil it. If you get the turbo, make sure you remember that it has the turbo.... this means nothing lower the mid-grade gas, try and get nothing lower than mixed synthetic oil... remember, turbos like to be spoiled, so treat it right and it'll treat you right. If you are not an enthusist, don't buy... you'll think it is too much hastle.
2002 Volkswagen Jetta - GL (M5) Sedan
Pros: the glowing lights
Cons: the mechanical problems
Advice: don't buy.I've had my Jetta for about seven months and I have to say... WOW! This car sucks. The first day I got it there was a grinding noise in the front driver-side rotor. Then the window fell out on the passenger side. Then the front suspension started making these annoying squeeking noises everytime I drove over the littlest bumps. Now the paint has these ugly little spots on them and the finish scratches so easliy. I will never get another VW again. I am very dissatisfied with this car.
2002 Volkswagen Jetta - GLS TDI (M5) Sedan
Pros: The whole package
Advice: Do alot of researchI have a 2002 GLS TDI and I love it. The only thing I am unhappy with is that with 1000 miles and less than 2 months ownership the car is at the dealership, and will be they say, for several weeks to wait on a replacement window actuator that is on national backorder due to a large number of failures experienced by many owner per the service department. I hope the dependability will not be a sore point.
2002 Volkswagen Jetta - GL (M5) Sedan
Pros: I LOVE THE GERMAN SYTLE
Cons: POOR QUALITY OF ENGINEERING.
Advice: HAVE THE DEALER REPLACE YOUR REAR BRAKES BEFORE 12K MILES...THE STYLE OF THE CAR IS GREAT, IT LOOKS VERY WELL PUT TOGETHER. THE LIGHT DISPLAY AT NIGHT LOOKS AWESOME. IT HAS A SOLID RIDE, AND IS VERY QUIET ON THE ROAD. THE FACTORY STEREO IS A PLEASANT SUPRISE,IT SOUND REALLY GOOD. THE FRONT BUMPER/AIR DAM HAS BIG PROBLEMS, WITH IT BEING PLASTIC AND NOT HELD TOGETHER WITH SCREWS(SNAP TOGETHER)- IF YOU PULL UP TO A CURB AND LET YOUR TIRES TOUCH, AFTER BACKING OUT OF THE PARKING SPACE LOOK AT WHERE THE BUMPER TOUCHED THE CURB YOU MAY BE LEAVING PART OF YOUR BUMPER/AIR DAM BEHIND AND NOT EVEN KNOW IT. THEY'LL REPLACE IT FOR NO-PROBLEM AT A SMALL COST... OTHER THAN THIS ON GOING PROBLEM THE CAR IS SOLID. IT COULD DO BETTER WITH MORE HORSE POWER. THE SAFETY I FEEL IN THE CAR IS REASSURING. NOT BAD OVERALL.
2002 Volkswagen Jetta - GLS 2.8L (EOP Week 40) (M5) Sedan
Cons: side curtain air bag and service department
Advice: Don't buy it until they figure out the air bag problem - also don't do the leaseLoved the car until my side curtain air bag deployed while I was driving and with no impact. Be careful, the service department and the VW department themselves will tell you they've never heard of this happening before. Well, it has.
2002 Volkswagen Jetta - GLX (EOP Week 40) (M5) Sedan
Pros: good acceleration
Cons: poor quality control
Advice: DON'T DO IT!!!!Tons of problems with the electrical system--replaced it three times in one year. Service and response by the dealer has been poor. Some of the repairs have not been covered by the warrantee because they claim that there have been 'outside influences'. Last time they said the problems occurred because the car had been jump-started, which it never has. Not worth the money, and certainly not the time and hassle. Since buying this car, I've spoken to a number of others who also had problems with the electrical system
2002 Volkswagen Jetta - GLS (M5) Sedan
Pros: Monsoon Audio
Cons: A few rattles
Advice: A notch above the rest.Absolutely love this car!!!!! I have owned others, like the rival honda, and can honestly say that anyone looking to get a new car ought to give the VW as test drive. You leave with it:)
