The Original Hot Hatch Rocks

Pros: Engine performance

Cons: Exterior Styling, Front wheel drive

In all honesty, you'd be hard pressed to find a better, all around sporty economy car. The interior is top-notch, and the drive is simply stunning. For a front wheel drive car, it handles incredibly flat, and the steering is very precise. The 2.0T is an absolute gem, with oodles of torque down low, making merging and passing people on the highway a breeze. I even use mine to participate in autocross events, and I've surprised many BMW and Porsche owners with how fast my little car car run. If you're looking for a sporty car that get great fuel economy while maintaining enough space to be practical, this is the car for you.

Great Car for an Awesome Price

Pros: DSG Automatic transmission

Cons: Sunglasses compartment doesn't fit My Sunglasses

I spend 3 years researching cars and looking for Best Deal, I am 6'8'' 225 lbs so finding a roomy car, that is fast, looks great, isn't too expensive, has great acceleration, give great gas millage and is well designed inside out was not an easy task. My GTI has all that an more, Seat warmers, heated mirrors come standard. Car is small enough in length to fit in any space but spacious enough inside to fit me more comfortably than 95% of cars on the market (yes I tried all the cars at an Auto show in LA to make sure I can fit).

Stunning car

Pros: Performance and handling

Cons: Tyre wear

After a few family cars I decided to get a hot hatch and bought a Golf GTI. Since I have this car you will find a broad smile on my face. Price, performance and quality are simply awesome I can only recommend this car.

2002 Volkswagen GTI

German funmobile

Pros: TURBO

Cons: lazy handling

I am 2nd owner, 1st owner did a decent job of maint, had all recalls performed at dealer. Previous GTI/GLI's were much better in handling, new car is much better on the highway. Turbo power is exciting!

Over exceeded expectations...

Pros: Acceleration and exhuast note

Cons: Nothing

I've been very impressed with my 2010 VW GTI. The interior quality is outstanding, the car has great acceleration, and I get lots of compliments on the exterior looks. The best part is the exhaust note when you rev the engine up in the 3-5k range. Overall the car has greatly exceeded my expectations, especially given the $24k price.

Pros: The touch screen stereo system with complimentary XM Radio for 6 months

Cons: There are no dislikes

Advice: By this car from a VW dealer the last day of the month to get the best deal

I purchased the 2010 GTI with the DSG transmission and 18' rims in early October of '09. This was the first car I've purchased that I actually waited for based on all the reviews read prior to its unveiling. And it was certainly worth it. It has go-cart handling much like the Mini-Cooper S, but with a distinctive German road handling feel to it. The interior design is elegant and understated with the leather package. I did purchase a few extras like heated seats and the upgraded stereo system which pushed the price to 30K. I didn't pay that, but expect this 'niche' vehicle to be a little more than the price projected here. You will love this car.

Advice: make sure that it fits your needs

my gti has a automatic 6 speed transmission and it took a little getting used to. the automatic shifts very quickly even when going slow, but it performs better than any american sports car i've had mustangs, firebirds, etc. because it was a two-door hatchback i had to test the 'roomy-ness' and had 4 250+ pound people get in the front and back seats, they all said that it was better than 4 door civics and even nissan sentras. overall though, i have not one regret to getting this fine german automoblie and will be returning to volkswagen for future purchases.
