    2004 Volkswagen Touareg - V6

    Pros: feeling of Safety

    Cons: Gas Milage

Advice: Great car and I am very satisfied

I've put about 3,000 miles on the car already and I love the car. I bought a fully optioned car with navigation and air suspension. Car handles great, engine sounds musical when pressed hard. Down side is the gas milages. I bought it knowing it has poor gas mileage but with the high gas prices, it costs me around $68.00 to fill up with preminum gasoline and it does not last me a week. Also with so many warning chimes and lights, sometime it is bothersome. Car being so heavy, it feels cumbersome to drive as well. I miss the simple cars like Honda where you turn on the car and drive.

    2005 Volkswagen Touareg - V8

    Pros: Looks

Cons: Constant problems with the car and the service I receive.

    Advice: DON'T BUY ONE

I own the Touareg V10 TDI.Paid $67,000 for this suv and have had nothing but trouble with this car, service and VW.The list is long.....brakes squeak LOUDLY,a clunk in the rear, panel gauges malfunction, air doesn't work,it whistles, clanks and makes noises to the point that I am pulling my hair out.The service people are of no help(they simply don't know how to service this car)and VW won't return my calls. My car is in the shop now(it's been 2 weeks)and on average is in the shop about 20% of the time. It's a nightmare!

    2005 Volkswagen Touareg - V6

    Pros: The interior is nice.

Cons: All the engine problems, plus the wood paneling will crack if you live in MI where I do and there is extreme change of temperature. Also the radio buttons started peeling off after 8mos of ownership.

    Advice: Don't buy!

I own a 2004 V6 and its beautiful and very comfortable. But my compliments stop there. In the year and a half I've owned this, I have taken this vehicle in 18 times. Now the fuel is not burning properly, which I'm told by the dealership is a common problem with all the the Touaregs. So depending on what time of the year is, be ready to be putting in different fuel. And sometimes that wont even work! In which case be prepared to have your car at the dealership for 3 weeks while they dismantle the engine to clean it out and order new parts. My car is nothing but a lemon and what is worse is that VW won't stand behind it. Horrendous! I would never recommend thisc car.

    2004 Volkswagen Touareg - V6

Pros: Beautiful exterior and impressive interior

    Cons: Interior Quality problems

Advice: Make sure all the VW Service Bulletins are installed if you are buying a 2004

I wish I could be more positive about this review. The best thing about this purchase is the outstanding service I have received from our dealer. They have really tried hard to make us happy. I bought this vehicle 18 months ago and have put 17K miles on it. The following is a list of problems we have had to date. 1 Wood grain on interior cracked everywhere 2 Surface is flaking off all dials on radio, climate control dials and the headlight switch. 3 Low tire pressure comes on for no reason 4 Inside 2 inches of both front tires are bald after 17k miles 5 Battery has died and then magically started working again 6 Remote lock only works from 1 foot away 7 Rear Cargo light doesn't shut off 8 Rear windshield wiper doesn't work 9 Rear hatch won't lock 10 Vehicle status display is intermittent Now for the good news - The Dealer has replaced the wood panels and flaking knobs. The dead battery was fixed by a VW service bulletin The remote locks will be fixed this week by another VW service bulletin The problem with the status display, rear hatch lock, cargo light and rear windshield wiper are all due to a defective latch that is another VW service bulletin After all this, I still love this SUV and am thinking about a 2005 V8

    2004 Volkswagen Touareg - V10 TDI

    Pros: The V10

    Cons: The Navigation System

Advice: Grab it. This is the best vehicle I have ever owned. Fast, solid, handles and looks great

After suffering through the torture of a Mercedes ML and a BMW X5 this thing is a joy. It far outhandles and outclasses both and is much better put together. Some minor glitches. You would be better off with a $2.00 fortune teller than the nav system and the 4 wheel drive system has it's share of clunks and thuds and groans. The V10 is amazing, achieving great mileage and performance. It is quiet and people rarely know it's a Diesel until they are told. A beautiful vehicle to look at with an interior that puts the Mercedes and BMW to shame. I would receommend this vehicle to anyone.

    2004 Volkswagen Touareg - V8

Pros: Quality appearance and Off-Road ability.

    Cons: Quality

Advice: Don't buy an '04. VW is at the bottom of the quality rankings mostly because of this vehicle.

My review may be biased, as I've been approved under the lemon law for an exchange with an '05 model. I purchased the V8 with the air suspension and the problems have been so numerous that I'll explain a few in brief. 1.) 5 Dead Battery episodes and counting 2.) All the chrome trim around the windows needed to be replaced because it started to discolor. 3.) Squealing brakes, I can't drive with the window down it's so annoying. They refuse to fix it insisting that all disk brakes squeak. Really? Then why, except for my $50k vehicle, is it always so quiet when traffic is coming to a stop at a signal? 4.) It's an off-road vehicle par-excellance and they put on tires that get easily damaged off-road. This with the 18' tires which are meant to be off-road worthy. 5.) Computer glitches, too many “system fault” messages to count. 6.) Manumatic often shifts on it's own well before redline. So what's the point in having the manual feature if it acts like an automatic? 7.) Strange gurgling noises coming from the A/C. 8.) Odd clicking noise when using the rear window wiper, sounds like it's about to break off each time it moves. Sometimes it stutters its way across the window even when the window is wet. 9.) Limited range with the remote. Often have to hit the button multiple times to get it to open the door. 10.) Fuel economy is horrible. Unless I turn off the vehicle at every stop light and drive like my grandfather used to in his Dodge Dart, I can't reach an average of 14 MPG. AVERAGE! 11.) Aggressive downshifts by the tranny sometimes make you wonder if you just hit a dog because the downshift is so abrupt. 12.) Odd feeling when in Auto or Comfort that just turning the wheel slightly suddenly makes your head shake dramatically to one side or the other depending on the direction your turning. 13.) Don't try taking a dip except straight on, you'll get nauseous with all the head shaking. I see a dip and I'll try desperately to avoid it for that reason. So now that you've heard the negative. Here's some pluses. 1.) Relatively fun to drive in Manumatic and Sport. But the ride is occasionally very harsh. However, the car can take on-ramps at almost the speed of my old M Coupe. Impressive. 2.) This thing will do the Rubicon and then drive the paved canyon road like a sports car. 3.) Great looking interior. Classy. 4.) Seats are pretty comfortable, but lacking in lateral support. They seem designed for overweight Americans with gigantic behinds. 5.) Quiet on the highway. Serene cruiser. Great for a long distance trip. That's when the mileage actually seems to be what was advertised. So I'll see if the replacement is any better and reserve my final judgment after I've had a chance with the newer model. Perhaps they've ironed some of this out.

    2004 Volkswagen Touareg - V8

Pros: I initially liked how it looked

    Cons: unreliable

Advice: Grab your running shoes and run as fast as you can to another Make/Model

This is the biggest mistake I have ever purchased. It has been in the shop several times, and doesn't have 2000 miles on it yet. Engine light keeps coming on, oil light, abti traction light, cd player needed to be replaced, as it didn't let cd's back out, and recently it was towed to the dealership because it wouldn't start. They replaced the battery. This is my fifth and last VW. Brakes are squishy, and handling is jerky. This started at about 500 miles.
