Getting firsthand information from an actual car owner is one sure way to get an idea of car performance once it leaves the lot. Autobytel features real consumer reviews that give the unbiased experience of a car.
Pros: Once broken in and warmed up, the engine is strong, quiet, and smooth for a diesel. Most importantly, no smog check or tuneup needed.
Cons: The cup holder gets in the way of the stereo, and the operator has to turn the knob on the side of the seat to lay down.
Advice: Comfortable ergonomics, almost an overkill of safety features, fun handling, great sound system, and it's versatility with all brands of roof racks, makes the Golf TDI GLS definitely worth a test drive to own.The car gets great mileage; it can go 600-700 miles on one tank of gas. The car is quick and responsive. It's ergonically nice, with fully adjustable seats and telescopic steering wheel. The TDI 5-speed manual transmission gearing is very narrow compared to unleaded models, which makes for a lot of shifting sometimes, but it gives the driver much control over it's torque. It's almost impossible to stall because it just pulls. Carries loads like it doesn't exist, no matter how loaded down. ABS and traction control is wonderful during inclimate weather driving. The Monsoon System is definitely very nice; 4 speakers & 4 tweeters completes the driving experience. When taking passengers, the design of the interior makes it look roommier than it really is. It has almost every safety feature conceivable from daytime running lights, to many airbags, and to a remote alarm system makes insuring the car cheap as well. With great milage, comfort, and the fun one has driving the Golf TDI GLS, it's easy to rack up the miles.
Pros: It's design
Cons: The cupholders
Advice: If you think it's a little pricy, compare the cheaper with all of VW's options added, and you'll see it's not pricy at all.I bought my 2002 VW Golf GLS as my first new car. I love this car. Its design from the outside is clean and stylish. It comes with many standard features. By the time you add all these options on its competitors, it costs just as much. The Golf is a heavy, steady car that surrounds you in safety with the amazing amount of airbags. I plan on keeping this car for a long time!
Pros: Blue Gauges and overall feel of the automobile
Cons: Cupholder gets in the way of the stereo
Advice: Black seats do show alot of lint and stuffOverall a great vehicle for the price. It seems like a much more expensive vehicle than the price tag shows.
Pros: The look and the quality interior and sound system
Cons: The power. I think the performance of the engine grows on you as the engine ages. You have to give it time to break-in and not give-up after a few thousand miles of less poweful starts which is fustrating to some. (Applicable to stick drive)
Advice: Pick a color that you REALLY like and order it if they don't have it in stock. Choose the alternative to the beige velour. The other material availableOk...this is a great car despite it's cons that others have mentioned. As for the pros there are LOTS! The standards that you get with this car are non-standard with other similar sized cars. The interior is GREAT! Typical German standards, not the plasticky toy-looking interior. You can tell the QUALITY!! As for the gas mileage...I have NOTHING to complain about. I would say that this is a great car for dog-lovers like myself, as you can easily fit in a 80lbs pup with enough space
Pros: Heated seats
Cons: Interior color (black shows everything) & cloth used on the seats. Very hard to slide in and out of the car.
Advice: Do not buy this car if you plan on having people ride in the rear seats. Very cramped space for a person. This is the perfect car for a single person.Drives excellently. Especially steady ride for such a small car. On the highway does not get blown around by the trucks. It just zips along. Fabulous fuel mileage. Keeps getting better with every fill up. I'm at 48.7 miles per gallon at present time.
