2001 Toyota Tacoma
WOW how far they can fall where Quality is concern
Pros: Rattle & squeak free.
Cons: RUST RUST RUSTThe first 4 years were trouble free, another happy Toyota owner. Then it started! Rust started to take over on the underside of my vehicle and every 15 months I was in the shop getting rusted rear brakes replaced. Then 7 years into my ownership experience my frame started to flake off big chunks of rust. Toyota has serious problems in the quality area as I was quick to learn in early 2009. 1995 - 2000 Tocomas being bought back due to rusted frames, 2001 - 2004 Tacomas being both bought back (early on) and new frames being installed in the others, 2001 - 2004 Tundras with same issue of rusted frame, not to mention all the other recalls recently.

2009 Toyota Tacoma
Pros: Comfort/tow package
Cons: Front seats are manual and could be mounted a bit lower.Had the truck for 10 months with no problems. With exteded cab it has the comfort of a car with ample room for 4 passengers and driver. I tow 2,000 lbTrailer/1000 lb boat with no problem. Front seats are manual and could be mounted a bit lower.

2004 Toyota Tacoma - 4x4 Double-Cab
Pros: The back seats.
Cons: The step rails
Advice: Buy a prior lease on this and get $10,000 off the price like I did.I had a 1996 6 cyl 4wd xtra cab until 2006 got 278,000 miles on it. Just bought this Newer 4wd dble cab with 66,000 miles on it and absolutley love it !
2009 Toyota Tacoma - 4x4 Double-Cab Long Box
Pros: high clearance, safety features
Cons: low front seats
Advice: try to drive for more than a short ride, compare to others for front seat comfort.Reason I bought: rear seat can actually accommodate adults in some comfort as long as front seats are not too far back. Has ALL the safety features I wanted -- side curtain, active head restraints, stability control, and roof that meets 2010 IIHS testing standards. Very safe vehicle. I like: ride is tolerable, brakes (though soft) are very effective, steering is slow but that's appropriate -- it's a truck. Engine has good torque at low RPMs and can climb hills in 5th gear turning 1000 rpm when poking around town. This probably saves gas. MPG is OK -- getting 17.5 around town even before break-in. I like the rear-view camera. The rear seat is wide enough for an adult and two kids in car seats. I don't like: front seat bottoms (seat pans) are too low. They should incorporate adjustable seat height mechanisms from 4-runner. Dead pedal on left for driver is too narrow and too short. Truck downshifts excessively (two gears down) after turns around town, even when truck is driven very gently. This seems unnecessary and results in a brief racing of the engine followed by a hard upshift. Engine is a bit loud and harsh on acceleration, and I get some vibration at idle. I hate the beeping when locked and unlocked. I had to unplug the damn thing.
2006 Toyota Tacoma - (M5) 4x4 Access Cab
Pros: Seat comfort
Advice: Don't buy it...The 2.7 L engine is underpowered for use in a 4x4. The 5-speed manual transmission is the worst shifting transmission I've ever driven - feels like clutch not fully engaging. Suspension is nice for a truck, but had to upgrade to gas shocks. The truck comes with a plastic bed made in Mexico - need I say more... Overall, I'd wished I'd purchased something else! Oh, and each time I've contacted the dealer about a problem, I get ignored.
2007 Toyota Tacoma - (A5) 4x4 Double-Cab Short Box
Pros: The spacious inside
Cons: Handleing in the Snow/rain
Advice: Only buy where there is no snowThe truck drives great in perfect conditions, but once the sun goes down and the ran or snow comes falling out of the sky its a drive from hell. I would drive over a little snow drift on the road and end up doing a 360 because the traction was so bad. My sister's plymouth neon (very small car) could handle that snow without a problem. Im very disappointed in this truck.
2005 Toyota Tacoma - 4x4 Double-Cab Long Box
Cons: Tough for my grandparents to get in and out.
Advice: Get a TRD packageI have almost 30,000 miles on my truck now and it feels like it's just now starting to break in! Mileage is even starting to improve, I'm getting an average of 18+ and drive in town mostly. I can't stress enough how many people ask my how I like my truck, I have a loaded quad cab long bed 4 x 4 with the TRD package w/tow. Love it! Just a tip though, I have the silver paint and HIGHLY recommend it for a long lasting clean look. My neighbor just asked me yesterday if I just waxed it, I haven't waxed it once since I've had it LoL. I do use a touch-less car wash though, it's never had a brush on it........that helps IMHO. Good luck in your next truck choice, I looooooove mine :0)
