    2005 Toyota Matrix - Base (M5) FWD

    Pros: Gas milage

    Cons: Arm rests

Advice: Buy for the price and gas milage.

Nice car for the money. Bought mine March 05, good on gas. Gas milage was the factor to buy this car. There is alot of room in this car, all the seats and also in the back. Thumps up. Comfort could be better. the seats are very soft but the arm rests should be higher. Performance, well its a 4 banger, not bad, but its slow at interstate speeds. Quality, Toyota, need I say more. Appearance, neat looking, but bought it for price and milage. Overall, would recommend this to a friend.

    2005 Toyota Matrix - XR (M5) FWD

    Pros: Comfort and roominess

    Cons: haven't decided yet

Advice: Package 2 and drive it everywhere.

Gave up my 300 RX Lexus for a more fuel efficient Matrix. Wanted Red but my husband insisted white would be better for me and I've gotten used to the white on black and love it. Tested from Orange County, CA to Sacramento and O.C. to Vegas. Averaged 36 mpg highway and loved the cruise. Acted like a sports car. Loved the 'revving' and I'm 64 years old. Comfortable drive and carries tons of stuff (I'm also a musician). Recommend package 2, has everything I wanted and at convenient places.

    2004 Toyota Matrix - Standard (M5) FWD

Pros: The rally car style manual transmission and the ROOM!!!!

Cons: The upright seating makes it feel a bit like driving a mini-van

Advice: Make sure the seating is ok for you and the view out the rear window is also suitable for you.

WE got the standard model and it worked out great. We recently returned from a trip across country and we drove from seattle to chicago(across the rockies) and the car got btn 30-33 mpg ---30 over the mountains and 33 on the flat midwest roads. The car super comfortable and in fact we slept in the car two nights in a row. The fold down flat seats in the back make this car more comfortable than sleeping in a tent(which I love by the by) and I'm 6' 4' tall and could lay out flat in the back with the fold down seats. This car is great, but does lack a little when climbing the mountains in Montana, but not every car can be perfect. If you're looking for that super fast car this is NOT it, but if you want toyota reliability, safety, great gas milage that's not a hybrid, and a LOT OF ROOM in a compact car. This car is for you.

2004 Toyota Matrix - XR AWD

Pros: The love-hate styling... I love it!

Cons: Some really cheap parts and lack of attention to detail.

Advice: Spring for the XRS, you'll appreciate the extra refinement.

Reasonably good mileage, uninspired but acceptable performance, good handling, love-hate styling with some very interesting (bizarre) choices. This is an all-wheel drive with performance tires (expensive to replace and short life span). The outside mirrors are not sail-mounted and no power (ok if you are the only driver). The plastic on the dash seems better suited to a model you put together with glue and place on a shelf to display ... I could say the same for the wheel covers -ultra-cheap. If the front seats are back, the rear seat won't fold unless you remove the headrest. It is a Toyota and it has been reliable, only one defect, but I expected the details to be more refined.

    2004 Toyota Matrix - Standard (M5) FWD

    Pros: A/C outlets, design, room

Cons: At first driving position was different, but got used to it in a week.

Advice: Great Car, get V6 model if you want better performance

I have this car for 4-5 month now (or 10,000 miles). I like it a lot. Has plenty of room (both cargo and passenger). Great handling, awesome gas mileage, very comfortable to ride in, and Toyota quality. This car is actually Corolla Matrix -- Corolla engine.
