Getting firsthand information from an actual car owner is one sure way to get an idea of car performance once it leaves the lot. Autobytel features real consumer reviews that give the unbiased experience of a car.
Pros: Power and economy, options, not bad for an economy car.
Cons: Little back seat passenger hip, shoulder and leg room, not available with traction control, little cargo room.
Advice: You may want to consider the Corolla LE sedan instead! While my car was recently being repaired, I was loaned this. It was fuel economical and powerful. But it had little back seat passenger hip, shoulder and leg room. It is not available with traction control. It is why I can only recommend the version with the 5-speed overdrive manual transmission with a bigger gear range than the optional 4-speed automatic. And it gets good gas mileage. Not bad for an economy car. It is available with a lot of options. But it is not one I would own.
Pros: It's outside appearance
Cons: The plastic-material hubcaps
Advice: Take it out on the highway and go for it! Definitely try a stick. This car is a joy to drive - easy to handle, plenty of pep to hold its own in rush hour traffic and very sturdy. I know a lot of people think it's funny-looking, but I think it is just unique - It doesn't have the cookie-cutter sameness of Hondas, but I always feel like people who drive Echos are a lot more unique than Honda owners!
Pros: toyota quality
Advice: get em before toyota stops production in 04The Echo is just a great little car, end of story...if you want something that is dependable, fun to drive, excellent on gas, and has a peppy engine, then go check it out. SUV's are obviously the ticket these days in the US, but why be the next cat to buy the 15th silver Yukon in the neighborhood? Anyway, the Echo is a wise choice either new or used. If you don't mind the 5 speed on a used Echo, you can find one for next to nothing. And remember, Toyota cars go for about a million miles.
Pros: lots of storage compartments
Cons: I wish the seat went back further.
Advice: Get the one you wantI love the performance. In most economical cars you loose performance when you get high economy. Not here, considereing the car gets 34 miles to the gallon and can still get up and go.
Pros: I liked the good acceleration and good fuel economy. I also liked the low price.
Cons: Toyota could have put in better-quality interior materials.
Advice: Make sure you can deal with the center-mounted console.Although it took quite a while for the dealer to find the keys to their only Echo in stock, it was well worth the wait. It is one of the roomiest small cars, with a nice, high seating position, comfortable seats (even in the rear!) and ledgible controls, though the center-mounted instrument console could have larger displays. My test drive wasn't on a windy day, so I didn't notice any of the tippiness that I have heard some complaints about, but I would not be surprised by any, as the car is tall and narrow.
Pros: gas mileage and high seating
Cons: cruise isn't an option
Advice: You gotta try it on for size. It is very well-behavedPeppy little car with pleasingly eccentric looks! Lots of storage. We bought it because of the higher-than-average seating: much easier for me to get in and out of. We just traded 'down' from the Corolla line, and don't feel we lost anything in the move: it is certainly smaller in overall length, but the passenger compartment actually feels roomier!
Pros: great on gas
Cons: cant go off-roading with the Echo
Advice: get oneThis car much better than my 93 Thunderbird, which has many miles on it. I love Echo it gets great gas mileage and is fun to drive it on town and on highway. I no recommend it drivineg off road though it get stuck very quick. I ran over 2 stumps in the forest and it jumped right over them but some stuff fell off the bottom of the car. I got a white 2 door with a cd player it is fun to drive
