Good, solid, attractive car
Pros: comfort, size
Cons: less room to haul stuff (we've owned vans for the past 40 years).Seems like a great car. We had a sunroof added before taking delivery. We selected red. Good fit and finish.
Pros: Right now the seats. They're as comfortable as the Highlander's.
Cons: I really don't like how it handles on bumpy surfaces; and I wish it had real arm rests.
Advice: Go for it if you're stepping down from an SUV or up from a sedan. You can't beat it!There are some blind spots, so looking carefully before changing lanes is a must! And when the car hits a bump or a continuous patch of bad pavement, you feel it....not unlike a truck. That shouldn't be. The gas mileage is so-so. I had hoped it would be better than my 02 Highlander. Still, this is a lovely, and I mean lovely car for someone like me who packs four bikes, gear, people, and luggage to events. It does the job really, really well.
Cons: poor interior quality look
Advice: Look at a Honda Crosstour first!Cheap plastic look inside and hearing about Toyota's bad reliability issues as of late, I wish I would of just waited for the new Honda Crosstour!
Cons: Gave up my heated seats
Advice: Drive it!Lots of places to put 'stuff'. Engine has phenomenal power and 'feels' like a Rhino running down the road. Get the feeling that the tires are squeezing the life out of the road. A very tight ride, great suspension on 19' wheels, and people in the back seat have stated that they are as comfortable back there as they were in my 2005 Avalon. Contemplated a Honda CRV, but I felt every bump all the way up my spine. Wanted an AWD because of the hilly terrain and the problems that were happening with the Avalon in the snow. I got an Avalon with AWD with this vehicle.
Pros: The 'gangsta-chic' front grill with underbody spoilers. Excellent handling and responsive acceleration without a large fuel cost.
Cons: The over the right shoulder blind spot and rear backing up visibility (I got a back-up camera installed as part of my deal, which solved this).
Advice: Know that in the current market, they can't let you leave without buying, so be prepared to deal for 4 hours or so. Make the back-up camera part of the last thing to seal the deal. Have the cash to command their attention.I'm not quite understanding the one other review. I am very happy with my matrix. It is a blend of all my previous favorite cars. It has the edgy appearance and handling of the 2001 celica, the surprisingly roomy interior of the 2004 chevy hhr, and the winter traction of the 2007 rav4. Plus upto 32 mpg if you drive conservatively. 0-60 in 9 seconds, perfect headroom and easy to get in and out of. I took advantage of the current buyers market and paid approx. $18,000 cash.

Advice: Buy a Ford or Chevy.Total piece of junk! Do not buy! Buy a Ford or Chevy. Mine wore out after 550 miles.

Cons: The milage stinks we are getting 15 mpg and are suppose to get 19-22mpg.
Advice: Be prepared for higher fuel cost.The handling and performance is very good states my wife who who is the primary driver and shuttles our kids to all of their functions. The third row seat is a plus for us coming from a Toyota Seinna for 5 years. It took us one month of solid research to locate a Highlander with the options that were important to us and not to have to pay for alot of additional options we did not want. The available configurations were either $35k to $42k, we finally located one with a MSRP of $33k 80 miles away. I am writing this review while sitting in Armstrong Toyota Service Department in Homestead Florida having them check out the source of the poor milage and the radio programing that was not programmed correctly (no SAT function). So far the Service Manager is telling me that I will have to drive the vehical for over 1000 miles before the engine reaches a decent average miles per gallon. I will do a follow-up at that time. I think it is untrue but will be none bias at this point.
