    2006 Subaru Forester - 2.5X (M5)

Pros: who cares with all the other problems

Cons: drive train is very unrefined - engine hesitates especially in hot weather, transmission has rough downshifts

    Advice: don't buy one

Engine hesitates especially in hot weather and worse with AC on - hesitation can be up to 4 seconds - very dangerous when you are trying to pull into traffic and the damn thing won't move for 3 or 4 seconds. Now that it is cooler the hesitation is not as bad but still happens when the defroster is on, meaning that the AC on on. Subaru is supposedly working on a fix. Lots of rattles from dash, headliner and from the back. Transmission is unrefined, because it sometimes downshifts roughly when you are slowing down for a stop. Its newest trick is the throttle not closing when you take your foot off the gas. You can be going 40 or 60 for instance, take your foot off the gas and the car goes merrily along at the same speed, just as if you had the cruise control on. No word from the dealer as to what the problem may be.

    2006 Subaru Forester - 2.5X (M5)

Pros: Agility and crispness of handling make this vehicle tough to beat.

Cons: Light the vanity mirrors for the ladies.

Advice: Consider purchasing the Premium Package, it is well worth the added investment. This will get you heated seats, mirrors, and windshield band, 6 CD changer, four wheel disc brakes, power driver's seat, bodacious moon roof, and automatic climate control.

Subaru has it right for niche markets that require well-engineered vehicles in severe climates. We purchased a 2004 Subaru Outback and the 2006 Forester was absolutely the right addition for our family. The Forester offers a much tighter yet responsive ride and the visibility is phenomenal. While still a new car, we can tell this vehicle and combination of vehicles is a winner!

    2005 Subaru Forester - 2.5XT w/Premium Package (M5)

Pros: Fun to drive and excellent economy

Cons: Room at backseats and annoying seatbelt beeper

Advice: Compare w/ similar small SUV's and you'll end up w/ a Forester.

Actually my Forester is of 2006 vintage. It has exceeded my expectations in almost every way. Great quality, handling and reliability. With the manual transmission version I got 31 mpg on long trips.

    2005 Subaru Forester - 2.5XS L.L. Bean (A4)

    Pros: Giant sunroof

    Cons: rear seat leg room

Advice: Get one..... it will make you feel smart!

This is my second Forester, and I thought how could they possibly make it better? Subaru somehow managed to do so. Love the handling, braking, and how everything is wrapped in leather. Rear seat room is slightly improved. My daughter does not think of it as a 'Mom Mobile'. We pull our pop-up camper with our Forester, try that with a Honda CRV. The giant sunroof is a must have!

    2006 Subaru Forester - 2.5X (M5)

Pros: Outside appearance, cd player, a/c, power windows

    Cons: Seats

Advice: If you have any back problems, don't buy this car.

I own a 2006 Subaru Forester... ver nice looking car, but terribly uncomfortable seats. I don't know how I would manage a very long drive being so uncomfortable in the seat. Why didn't Subaru think of adding something to the seat... like comfort???

    2005 Subaru Forester - 2.5XS (M5)

Pros: The design of the dashboard controls

    Cons: Nothing!

Advice: Try it - you might like it!

I love my Forester and it is the second one I've owned. The ride is smooth, it is good on gas, and the interior is more stylish than my 2001. I also like the climate control knobs. It handles well on wet pavement during rain or snow. I got a good deal on a 2005 when the 2006's had just come out and that was a plus. I am one of the few people out there who still enjoys driving a 'stick' (manual speed transmission) and the 'hill grabber' feature is great so there's no rolling backward when the clutch is released.

    2005 Subaru Forester - 2.5XT w/Premium Package (M5)

Pros: Power moonroof and cargo nets.

Cons: Getting use to the wiper control and cruise control locations.

Advice: To ask about the optional accessories.

The Forrester handles great on wet pavement. I noticed that it is harder to handle in high wind, but we don't have to deal with that too often in the south. Go ahead and get the extras like an armrest and cargo nets instead of waiting later like I did. The gas miliage isn't too good with the turbo, but still isn't too bad. Overall I am quite pleased with the Forrester.
