Cons: Weak low end acceleration.
Advice: Test drive, to make sure it is a fit.Perfect fit. The right combination and balance, slightly more car than truck. Low end acceleration is a little weak but mid range is great. I added a locking removerable cover for the bed and got a convertable trunk.
Pros: Sports car ride and 4 wheel drive pickup truck utility.
Cons: I wish I got the 5 speed.... but that was my fault, not Subaru's
Advice: Test drive one. You might just fall in love with it. I did.The Subaru Baja is not for the shy. You WILL be noticed. Mine is in a silver grey/silver - sharp yet understated. LOADED w/standard features - Power sunroof/windows/mirrors locks,RKE,fog lights,cruise,AWD,ABS disks on each corner, roll bar, *nice* alloy wheels/60 series tires, xclnt AM-FM CD, consoles and cupholders, all in a package that handles like a sports car.. with a pick up bed. The Baja is really fun to drive. Power is adequate,esp considering 29+ mpg on my last road trip (with an automatic). Quality, quiet, fit and road manners on asphalt and dirt is outstanding. The Subaru buying experience was no pressure, I got the vehicle at invoice, and the company culture is customer oriented.
Pros: The looks and powerfull engine.
Cons: The leg room, needs more. But all cars are too small for my 6' 3'' frame.
Advice: Have funIf you are willing to spend the extra money on a Baja Turbo. You will know where the cash went. The excelleration is pretty good. It will pin you back in the seat if you punch it. Drives like a car, real smooth. Almost no turbo lag. Quality driving feel. Solid and smooth braking. Only draw back is having to use premium gasoline. But I knew that before I got it. Costs more than other cars in it's class, for a reason. It's a better engineered car. This engine is a very smooth and powerfull little marvel.

Advice: MAKE SURE YOU TEST DRIVE THIS VEH, YOU WILL BE SURPRISEDI HAVE HAD NO PROBLEMS WITH THIS VEHICLE. IN THE CITY OR ON THE COUNTRY ROAD IT PERFORMS WELL.THE MILEAGE AVERAGE 22/25.FREEWAY PASSING FALLS SHORT. THE4CYC LACKS POWER IN MOUNTAIN DRIVING. MAJOR COMPLAINT .A VERY FUNCTIOAL CAR/SMALLPICK UP.THE AWD IS THE BEST MADE OF ANY OF THE SUVS.

Cons: Rear blind spot
Advice: Do not pay more than $1000 over invoiceFirst highway trip 28MPG (Odometer at 390 miles on end of trip). Poor rear view visibility, large blind spot from tinted rear windows, pilar connecting body to pick-up bed, and rear seat head rest. The 4-spd automatic is responsive from a stopping position, less so at near highway speeds. Left turns on a dry road at a fast 25mph while on cruise control are excellent. Climbing a steep long hill from a stopping position, the engine revs to a maximum 4500 on first and second gear before cruising at speed limit of 45MPH in third at about 3000. Seats are confortable for long trips, drivers seat lumbar support is excellent, doors slam quiet, with back seat folded down exposes cargo nets (an option) the vertical one holds 5 full plastic grocery bags ( a paper bag would be impossible to load into this strechable net, ask for plastic at the grocer), the flat net lays flat in front of the vertical and is not as practical. If the vertical net had some way holding/hooking it open to load items it would have been a good idea. Power Moon roof is noisier than other cars in the full open position at greater than 30mph. This needs an adjustment/redesign to prevent the front flat from moving too high up ( when it is moved down by hand wind noise is reduced significantly.
