Getting firsthand information from an actual car owner is one sure way to get an idea of car performance once it leaves the lot. Autobytel features real consumer reviews that give the unbiased experience of a car.
Pros: The way it looks inside and out
Cons: No armrest, small vanity mirror, and Wish the optional cruise was on the steering wheel
Advice: get the optionals on ebay or other online sources, cheaper then the dealerI have had the car for one month now and I am still IN LOVE WITH IT. Its a quiet ride, comfortable (do much head and leg room in both the front and back. Love the Stereo (bad placement of rear speakers though and could use an amplifier). The speedometer took me 2 days to get used to but now its the most natural thing to look at the dash. The cargo space has come in handy in more then one way. Excellent gas mileage even when I run the air on full blast (NICE AIR , have yet to use the heat). BEST OF ALL I NO LONGER DRIVE A JELLY BEAN!
Pros: Its fun to drive
Advice: drive everything in this range and the buy it !well what can i say, it makes me wonder why the rest of the automotive world has overcharged and under performed for the last decade or so there has not been a car of this type for as long as i can remember then again im only 29 so maybe thats why, but with that being said this car is simply the best car you can buy for the money out there today . When i fist saw the tC i was taken by the look and the performance was second to none in its class and price range. i have had this car for about three weeks now and i would strongly encourage andy one in this price range looking for a fun sporty coupe to put this up against the compatition.
Pros: The look and the head & leg room - my hubby is 6'4' and he has plenty of leg and head room!
Cons: Lack of cargo space
Advice: You don't have to get everthing up front, you can customize later!Better then I expected for the price! It has a nice feel especially with the wide low profile tires.
Pros: The unusual look and the price (tie)
Cons: Rear passenger headrests block the vision of the rear windshield; had to remove them.
Advice: Dealers have scams; to compensate for Scion's 'fixed price', some dealers tried to charge $379 for 'administrative fees'; go to another dealer if you spot something like this.Love the carbon interior (doesn't have that cheap plastic look) A little bumpy driving, but that feels cool, like a jeep. Several unique features: instrument panel to the right, not obscured by the steering wheel, rear light (for kids to read?) separate from front light, fabulous stereo system for a standard feature.
Pros: The interior appointments
Cons: The volume control of the stereo.
Advice: Save your last test drive for the Scion TCWe had test driven 6 different cars all the 4 cly versions.(FocusZX3,Civic,Mazda3s,Accord,Martix,ScionTC) The Civic was the least impressive, so so performance and nosie. The Focus 2.0 was a peppy little car but any attempt to give it any gas and the AC kicked off. Matrix the most flexable of all tested but so so performance and odd feel in the 5 speed shifting where disappointing. Accord fine car very stripped down to get to the same price as the TC. Plus I felt like I was 16 again and barrowing my moms'car. The Mazda3s 2.3 (Focus Based) was a fun car to drive agian the price was thousands more than the TC for the same features. Now the TC fast, fun and fantastically appointed. The TC just feels solid and sure footed on the road. FYI it does get 3rd gear scratches with 45 series tires. To get more features and performance you will spend alot more. Just like the Datsun 510 did over 30 years ago the Scion TC may just earn the title of The Poor Mans BMW. I own both a 510 and a TC.
Pros: Panoramic moonroof.
Cons: Thin cloth moonroof covers that close with some difficulty.
Advice: Opt for the leather seats. The standard sport seats are good but easily collect lint. The 2005 Scion is a 'head turner' and exceptional value for under $20,000. I saw the vehicle next to a 2005 Toyota Corolla XRS at the local dealership. Test drove both vehicles and had to buy the Scion. The Scion surpasses the XRS in ride, handling, performance, and looks. The Scion 5-speed manual gearbox and shifting is smooth as silk versus the Corolla 6-speed XRS. Also, the Scion uses regular unleaded versus the premium gas required by the XRS. Have gone just over 1000 miles without any problems. The only negative: my wife is going to get tickets for speeding with the Scion.
Pros: I truly enjoyed the total product from the ride, spaciousness, handling to the looks, colors, and stereo. The all glass roof was very cool as well.
Cons: Didnt get to test drive a stick shift, only an automatic. Ive driven sticks for 20 years, so it may be time to go automatic anyway.
Advice: Dont 'trick' them too gaudy as it will ruin this nice cars reputation.Test drove on August 2, 2004. Pleasantly suprised by the smooth, quiet ride. Handled much better than my Mustang LX 5.0. Was impressed with the power, especially entering the freeway (going from 45-90 mph no problem)! I love the way it looks, and knowing that it has a Toyota Camry engine only gives confidence that you are getting the best quality and value.
