Getting firsthand information from an actual car owner is one sure way to get an idea of car performance once it leaves the lot. Autobytel features real consumer reviews that give the unbiased experience of a car.
Pros: The style, the look, the feel, the wind in your hair...
Cons: The wait! 6 months
Advice: Load it up, it's worth it.Who ever said money can't buy happiness never saw a Solstice...This is one of the most amazing vehicles on the road, and clearly the best value in the roadster market. It's impracticle, the trunk is small, and people won't leave you alone when you pull into a lot...it's PERFECT! A+++, the dream car of the decade.
Advice: Buy something else and skip the headachesMy wife saw this car on TV and fell in love. We bought our Solstice in October and now have 15,000 miles. This is a car that turns heads everywhere, is a blast to drive and handles like a dream. However, I would never buy this car again. It has been in the shop because of the rear carrier (differential) leaking 4 times and is now waiting for the arrival of it's 3rd complete carrier assembly. It has been in the shop this time for almost 3 weeks. It also had to have the rear trunk (deck lid) adjusted as it was not straight on the car. Pontiac has been great but the hassle isn't worth it.
Pros: The Monsoon Surround System
Cons: The Convertible Top
Advice: Test drive and shop around, this car is known for price spikesI had my Solstice for around 5 months. The steering was nice and communicative, but could have more solid. The gearbox was vague (does not match the car), the clutch springy like a mattress, and it never seemed to catch the engine's torque enough. The brakes do there job appropriately. I did love the interior, especially the smell, materials for the class. I hate the huge bulge protruding into the trunk space. Every door on the car gives you a work-out, you have to slam-it so many times to close it. I would chose this over a MX-5. I would not choose this over a Mini Cooper S, it drives better.
Pros: body styling
Cons: trunk space
Advice: must buyGreat! Handles and shifts well......fun to drive. Hugs the road better than a Corvette!!
Advice: Look at other makes and test drive them all before decidingI drove a friends for about 2 hours the other day and I found the performance to be below average. I believe the turbo will solve this. I found the interior to have all the typical inexcusable rattles and squeaks that are common in American cars. The clutch and transmission felt sloppy and unrefined as is usually the case with American cars. In my opinion, buy something European or Asian with similar looks. These things will go the way of the Fiero - you'll see.
Pros: The design caught my attention immediately and I never tire of looking at it!
Cons: The stick-on flanges on the trunk lid for the buttresses can fall off as one of mine did.
Advice: Some dealers will mark-up the price over MSRP as mine did. I had no choice because of availablity.I can't remember having so much fun driving an automobile as I've experienced in the last four months since I got my Solstice. It is absolutely the coolest car on the road! No matter where I go people ask me about it. Although I only had it for 4 months I have almost 11,000 on it. The best 11,000 miles I've ever driven. I love the fact that I have the only one on the road! Most of the ladies at my office have had a ride, some more than one and they absolutely love it!
Pros: The styling
Cons: Maybe a little more horse power
Advice: You are not buying this car for gas milage.Absolutely fantastic car!!! I would buy it again. It handles like nothing I have ever driven. If you can handle the stares you get, you can handle the car!!
