    2005 Pontiac GTO

    One of Australia's Best Performance Cars Ever

    Pros: The motor . . . I 'hopped' it up and gained about a hundred horsepower

    Cons: Handling isn't what it could be; the GTO tends to 'wallow' through turns.

    I'm one of the lucky few Americans who got his hands on the Australian-built '05 GTO. It's got the 6.0 Corvette 400 Horsepower V8 and a 6-speed. It uniquely combines lots of power with a slick trans and great brakes with an excellent road ride. If I could have designed the '05 GTO, I would have taken a few choice suspension pieces from a Z06 and built the near-perfect car.

    Cons: SEAT BELTS RIDE TOO HIGH ACROSS NECK IS ONLY COMPLAINT

    Advice: CAR INSURANCE NOT TOO EXPENSIVE BUT BRINGS LOTS OF $$$ FOR GAS

    GREAT HIGHWAY PERFORMANCE - EXCELLENT RIDE AND CORNERING. ACCELERATION WITHOUT TRACTION CONTROL ON CAN BE SCARY. TEST DRIVE ONE AND YOU'LL BE HOOKED. INTERIOR MATERIALS ARE FIRST-RATE - INTERIOR SEAT GTO LOGO IS CLASSY BUT EXTERIOR BADGING IS REALLY HARD TO IDENTIFY CAR AS A GTO. ONLY MINOR COMPLAINT IS DRIVER SIDE SEAT BELTS RIDE UP HIGH ACROSS NECK MAKING FREQUENT ADJUSTMENTS NECESSARY. GREAT FUN CAR TO DRIVE - ALWAYS GET PEOPLE ASKING TO LOOK @ IT WHEN GASSING UP (OFTEN) BUT REALLY GETS 22-23 MPG HIGHWAY. NOT BUILT FOR IN-TOWN OR LOCAL DRIVING - BUILT FOR SPEED. REAR WHEEL DRIVE AND DEFINITELY NOT A SNOW/ICE DRIVING CAR.

    Cons: Interior a little tight

    Advice: Buy it before you even think of any other performance car in this price range.

    Have had my GTO for two months and can't stop thinking I almost purchased something else. Acceleration is awesome, handling is tight, sound of the engine gets all the looks and Mustang drivers look on with envy. Can't wait to take on a long road trip.

    Cons: small trunk space (thanks to 10 speakers!)

    Advice: The price really adds up on fuel, but at the end of the day it's all worth it

    It can be driven conservatively, with a smooth ride, or can be driven 'rough,' changing gears and in excessive speeds. It looks nice, inside and out... and my husband and I get compliments on it everywhere we go... it's a sharp looking vehicle!

    The perfect stealth car...more performance than anything else for the price. The Australians have built a real GTO. Easy on the highway (23-27mpg) and outrageous power when you need it. Slick six speed, predictable handling, awesome torque and brakes. A tightly built, muscular quietly good-looking car.

    Pros: Goes like greased lightning, Stops and corners equally well. Actual room for 4.

    Cons: Skimpy trunk space. A little thirsty for premium gas (16/23 MPG). Can't turn off DRLs

    Advice: Awesome ride, but definately not for beginners, nor for the timid or faint of heart.

    The name GTO stirs up a lot of passions. Pontiac, fortuantely, didn't waste it on a undserving car. Even though this model is essential a Australian Holden Monaro (which is a good thing!), viewed for what it is and can do, it is certanly worthy of the name. This car can stir up a lot of passion also. It is an awesome ride! The best way to describe driving this car is like trying to walk a pack of Rottweilers! The car begs to be let loose on open road, where it will gobble up real estate at a frightening clip. Not frightening, however, is the handling. It is absolutely first rate, but needs an experienced right foot to get the most out of it. Brakes are equally strong, something that can't be said about classic GTOs! Even with traction control, this is just too many horsepower to put in the hands of an inexperienced driver. Good judgement and wisdom must be standard equipment on a GTO driver.
