Getting firsthand information from an actual car owner is one sure way to get an idea of car performance once it leaves the lot. Autobytel features real consumer reviews that give the unbiased experience of a car.
Pros: Goes like greased lightning, Stops and corners equally well. Actual room for 4.
Cons: Skimpy trunk space. A little thirsty for premium gas (16/23 MPG). Can't turn off DRLs
Advice: Awesome ride, but definately not for beginners, nor for the timid or faint of heart. The name GTO stirs up a lot of passions. Pontiac, fortuantely, didn't waste it on a undserving car. Even though this model is essential a Australian Holden Monaro (which is a good thing!), viewed for what it is and can do, it is certanly worthy of the name. This car can stir up a lot of passion also. It is an awesome ride! The best way to describe driving this car is like trying to walk a pack of Rottweilers! The car begs to be let loose on open road, where it will gobble up real estate at a frightening clip. Not frightening, however, is the handling. It is absolutely first rate, but needs an experienced right foot to get the most out of it. Brakes are equally strong, something that can't be said about classic GTOs! Even with traction control, this is just too many horsepower to put in the hands of an inexperienced driver. Good judgement and wisdom must be standard equipment on a GTO driver.
Pros: Power & Handling
Cons: No Automatic Door Locks On Manual Trans version. Must reach back to lock doors.
Advice: Don't be afraid of a manual transmission version. Extremely easy to drive.Fantastic ride, power, and handling. If this car was from Germany it would cost much more. There is some confusion, even at dealerships, about the Ground Effects Package and what is included. Impressive performance makes this car fun to drive. One bad point, GTO has no power door locks. 80% of GTO's are manual tranmission. Only automatic transmission versions can be made to lock the doors when the car is placed in drive. Manual transmission cars require the driver to reach around and push down the lock located on the back edge of the door.
Cons: power forward seat to get into the back
Advice: Drive the rest before you buy the best. When I saw the car I thought it looked OK, but once I drove it I fell in love! It's appearance is not as flashy as some of the other muscles out there now, but it blows them away in the speed department. I love the comfort, handling, pick-up, and the sleekness. I drove everything considered in it's class only to find out the GTO is in a class all its own, way above the rest.
Pros: 400 hp 6.0 ls2 motor, this motor has great potential for even higher power with inexpensive mods.
Cons: fuel tank placement
Advice: spend the money and get the 05 or 06 with the ls2 it well worth itI love this car . Its fast and very comfortable .Im 6'4' tall and I can have my legs fully extended which sold me on the car . The ride is fairly firm and it corners very well. I I bought the auto 4 speed and am quite happy with it . I dont care much for manual transmissions although some may say im crazy. The stock stereo is adaquate but it needs the sub amp in the trunk behind the lefthand sidewall turned up asap after purchase and also shut off the eq settings .The trunk is tiny since the gas tank is actually in the space under the rear deck. I got 18' wheels with mine and we got 1/2 of slushy snow which made the car undrivable (death ride) .i actual purchased some 17' stock rims off ebay and some dunlop snow tires for the winter. It hasnt snowed since the snow tires have been on .Figures! The car comes with 1 power outlet in the console however there is a smokers package available through the dealership for less than $100 which puts an ashtray and lighter under the radio and also in the back portion of the console for the backseat if desired. As far as looks its a sleeper but yet I get a lot of postive comments on the cars looks and performance.I like the way it looks . also its not in every driveway theres only appox 11500 made each year
Cons: can't crack the windows in the rain
Advice: Experienced drivers onlyNot for the inexperienced driver. Surprizingly exceptional handling, tight in turns with loads of torque. Mileage is better than expected also, getting 23 mpg on the highway.
Cons: No hood scoops (which should be functional)
Advice: Its not a family car. Test drive before you buy. Be aware of whether you can afford the gas for it.Bought 2004 GTO new. Had it for over 1 1/2. No mechanical problems. Performs great. Stable and balanced on the road and in turns. Power when you need or want it. Wouldn't trade it for the world.
Pros: the color 'cyclone grey' and hood sc..... not to forget the G-force!
Cons: limited options for interior
Advice: don't be tempted by other vehicles, just know they don't come close!A great car for thrill seeker! This is not a rice burner! I test drove some other vehicles , but simply they don't compare. A got mine at retail value which hardly ever comes to the consumer for such a monster. If you drive it, you'll buy it!
