Pros: Grill Guards
Cons: Slow exceleration...Especially on the highway.
Advice: BUY IT!!!The dealer let me take it home over night...what a great way to sell a car!
Pros: Engine is very responsive and powerful
Cons: Engine sucks fuel like its tap water. Vehicle needs premium fuel to fully appreciate power potential
Advice: Nissan is having a heck of a time selling Pathfinders right now (Mar 2002) because of the XTerra. Don't settle for anything more than a few hundred dollars over invoice! They gave us over $3,000 under the MSRP. Don't pay the advertisement markup.Very nice engine response. We have the 5 speed manual and the difference between it and the automatic version is truly stunning. Although the difference in horsepower is a mere 10%, the responsiveness of the easy shifting 5 speed translates into a tremendous difference in 'get up and go.' The handling is OK--comparable to other SUVs we test drove. The suspension is nice but the rear wheels hop when off-road in 2 wheel drive mode. The transfer case is simple to operate and gives a positive response moving in and out of 4 wheel drive. We have the cloth bucket seats and they're extremely comfortable (once you find the 'perfect' adjustment for seat position). The eight-way driver's seat adjustment is very nice, but the learning curve is steep on how to properly operate the darn thing. I've seen several negative reviews on the rear seat space. We found the back seat to be roomy enough to sit two adults comfortably. An added bonus is that the rear seats recline (independently) adding tremendously to rear seat comfort!
Pros: Looks, function & performance of headlights on country roads.
Cons: Could use more power without resorting to supercharged engine.
Advice: Drive other SUV's, then Xterra. Also look under to compare drivetrains, 4&5 bolt wheels vs 6 bolt for Xterra. The vehicle was delivered with no defects. The shifting of the transfer case from 4wd back to 2wd is not as positive as it should be. Holds the road well in high winds, very stable when driven hard on winding roads ~ for an SUV. Comfortable seating for tall people, front & rear. Rear end will get loose when driven fast on rough roads. Standard sound system decent, AM & FM pickup excellent. Heater is very good in cold climate. AC also works well. Defrosters are excellent, clears side windows rapidly.
Pros: I love all the accessories and the supercharged engine...price too!
Cons: The gas mileage is low, but that's to be expected.
Advice: Test drive this one last...you'll never go back to the other dealerships.I was looking for a vehicle that could support my active lifestyle. I own a boat and love being outdoors. This SUV emcompasses all the features that I was looking for in a rugged go-anywhere vehicle. It's very roomy, nimble, and with the supercharged engine suprisingly quick. The accessories are what really makes this vehicle special. I can throw all the wetsuits, skis, and tubes on the roof and they are all dry when I get home. All I can say is take it for a test drive. You won't be disappointed!!
Pros: The manual transmison
Cons: i paid around 26000 for it
Advice: get the 5 speed manualwith the supercharger its a nice SUV
