2006 Mitsubishi Eclipse - GT
Pros: New style is much classier than the previous model.
Cons: The color selection is better suited to midsized grocery-getters and not a sports car.
Advice: Keep your foot out of it or you will swear you're driving an SUV every time you gas up.Finally, An Eclipse that runs as good as it looks! Plenty of power and responsiveness to spare. Everything was tight and very little road noise for a car in this class and price range. Very Impressive!
2002 Mitsubishi Eclipse - GS
Pros: The 'Look'
Cons: When you bring back up the top the windows go down.
Advice: BUY BUY BUY it makes the BMW look like a cheap ride with thousands of dollars less. The 2002 Eclipse Spyder is off the hook. I bought it in Red with black leather interior. I put 18' inch rims with low profile tires on it. The car handles with ease hugs the road like a trooper I have hit 130 MPH and it handles like a Vette. The body of this car is such a beauty that it turns heads everyway I go. But then again I got the florescent lights on the bottom. I also got the Lamborginin doors to boot so the car is off the chain!
2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse - RS
Pros: Catches everyone's attention.
Cons: Catches everyone's attention.
Advice: Don't crash. No test drive. I've owned the Eclipse for about 7 months already, bought it with 34K miles. It's only at 41K miles, still running strong. It's been giving me a funny sound when I catch high speeds on the West Side HWY while accel. but it's really nothing and no one can figure out what it is. The car handles VERY well and is pretty quick but it just isn't cool when a Mitsubishi Lancer EVO can dust you. The 140hp on this 4-cyl thing with no turbo-charged options from the dealer, suck. Since buying the car from the dealership in lower Manhattan I've dropped the car on it's factory 15' Mitsubishi rims for even better handling on sharp turns. The rims I sanded down and painted gun metal. I installed a full body kit and shaved all the emblems except for a custom Sports Edition RS-R emblem I placed on the back where the original RS letters were located. The hood and spoiler also painted black the same as my rims, also sanded down for the off-black look. Performance wise I installed an APEX GT catback exhaust system for a few more horses. I wouldn't trade my Eclipse for anything.
2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse - GT
Pros: The low profile seating as if its a high cost sports car, and the fact the gear shift, (being I have a 5 speed) is so convenient and right at arms length.
Cons: There is a very open void on the front grill area. Mitsubishi should have made a protective grill area there. A rock from the road penetrated the radiator on my car due to the lack of that. Cost me about $300.
Advice: Think twice if you do alot of winter/snow drivingThis is my second Eclipse. I do have to say that it cant compare to my '98 I had as far as the styling is concerned. I liked the more 'squashed' look from the models prior to the newer change that came I think in 2000. This car is not for winter and snow driving. I tend to leave it home when the weather here up north gets bad. I had too many spin outs with this car. But with nice weather driving, you cant beat this car. Ive driven my brothers Corvette, and other than the obvious lack of power compared to that car, it compares almost the same, in my opinion. I had grafic details done on the car,put on Euro rear lens, and it really stands out in the croud. The 2006's are going to be awesome however. I saw pictures and I swear, this upcoming car is going to look like something from the future! Maybe time for trading it in?? Who knows.
2004 Mitsubishi Eclipse - GTS
Pros: Body style and design
Cons: poor rear visibility
Advice: Great car! not a family car though! This is a great car! I test drove one after driving a Ford Mustang, Pontiac Grand Am, and Toyota Celica. I owned a 1991 Eagle Talon, which had a turbocharged 4 cylinder engine. The 6 cylinder engine in this model has more horsepower than that car did, without a turbo. The only flaw that I can think of is that its hard to see out of when trying to change lanes, or merging on the freeway, you have to adjust the mirrors exactly right to see! I found that putting a small concave mirror on the side mirrors helps a lot! Great sound system, great handling, great acceleration, but only made for 2 people comfortably.
2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse - GS
Pros: Good options for the price
Cons: No turbo
Advice: try the 4 cyl. it's more peppy than you thinkAwesome drive. This car takes all the best parts of the generation 2 and improves them. The wider stance is amazing. I bought the 4 cyl. and it's amazingly quick. All the options are nice, Sun and sound package a definate plus. I like this one so much I might buy another mitsubishi.
2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse - GS
Pros: From the Sun & Sound pkg: Infinity Stereo w/ 7 Speakers, great for any type of music!
Cons: Getting in and out, although it IS a sports car.
Advice: Two people in the car, fine. remember it's a sports car, not a family car, so you can't totally complain about rear seating comfort. they don't complain about uncomfortable back seats in a porsche do they?Handling is great, comfort when driving over awkward terrain such as railroads, or dirt paths is superb. pickup is quite nice, sportronic shifter is a must! enjoy day to day automatic - or just bust out once in a while, play with the shifter around the turns: show them what you've got!
