Getting firsthand information from an actual car owner is one sure way to get an idea of car performance once it leaves the lot. Autobytel features real consumer reviews that give the unbiased experience of a car.
Pros: Riding with the top down, and the wind blowing my hair, oops don't have any hair!!
Cons: Compact trunk space, but hey it's a 2 seat convertable!! What ya expect??
Advice: Pack light. Test the other 2 seaters, you surely choose the Mazda.Turning 50 years old and being very conservative and practical when buying vehicles. I decided that I wanted a 2 seat convertable sports car. So much for the practical side of me. Anyway, I went out and test drove the cars that I liked. They were the BMW Z3 and Z4, Honda S2000, and the Mercedes SLK, and the Mazdaspeed MX5. Hands down the Mazda won out. It's style and affordability were instrumental in my decision making. Yes, all the others were nice cars but, were much more costly initially and for repairs. This Mazda of which is called 'my little red baby' has been a joy to drive. It is very responsive, has great speed when you need it. The turbo gives it its pop. Love it!!
Pros: Razor sharp handling
Cons: Having to put the top up on rainy days.
Advice: Only a lucky few really 'get' this car.My Speed is reminiscent of the MGB of my youth. Fun, fast, sexy and classic. My red toy is daily therapy and I look forward to long drives. Thank god for my radar detector!
Pros: the topless option
Cons: not too good on gas
Advice: get the color you like, 'cause it will be with you for a very long timecomfortable, exciting and attention grabber
Pros: The turbo
Cons: The reverse gear
Advice: Be careful, you won't want to stop driving it.Finally a Turbo Miata!!! This is my 3rd Miata, if you don't have fun driving your car, drive one of these bad boys. I have a 2004 Velocity Red Mazdaspeed Miata. I'm 6'2' and I fit just fine, I don't think a much taller person would be comfortable. There is only one bad thing about this car...the reverse gear. Sometimes it takes a few trys to get it in reverse, the best way to get it into reverse is to pump the clutch once and it will go right in, but I figure if that's the only bad thing about the car I can live with it. Super handeling on dry surfaces, excellent pickup. I constantly get compliments on the paint job the metalflake is beautiful! I can't say enough good things about this car. Go get you one!!!!
Pros: How about: power, handling, ergonomics, fit and finish, realiabilty, beauty and 'top down'.
Cons: Leather seats offer limited lateral support for trim drivers; muted exhaust note.
Advice: Be prepared to be ogledI have personally owned nothing but Mazdas for nearly 20 years. This is my 2nd Mx-5 Miata, and I still have my purchased new 1985 Rx-7. Given the modest sticker price of $26,720 with leather, The Speed offers an unbeatable combo of low 6 second 0-60 and mid 14 second 1/4 mile times, coupled with world class handling and road feel, super fit and finish, legendary reliability, 'you are one with your vehicle' ergonomics, as well as a 'look at me' factor that rates right up at the top of the scale. While the Sunday Driver poser types could also enjoy this car, it's intended for foks like me--hard core backroad brawlers who love the wind in their hair and no backseat drivers to distract them. 'It just feels right' (thanks to Mazda's ad department circa 1990).
Pros: Ease of the convertible top
Cons: Wish it had lumbar support
Advice: Get in and drive this! It's small but mighty.Purchased this car on 6/10/04 and took it for a drive over the week-end. We already have a 2004 Mazda RX8 so we weren't surprised that this little gem was just as great. Very smooth ride, very tight. No wind noise from the convertible top that was still up on the trip out. Air conditioner did not slow the car down. Easy to get in and out of. Really a sweet car. We took the top down coming home and we loved it. Trunk space adequate for a small car. Great leg room and head room for us. No doubt we will keep this one for a while.
Pros: Styling inside and out.
Cons: Horrible rearward visibility, especially in blind spots...small standard rearview mirror
Advice: Put this car last on your test drive list and you'll see what you've been missing. This vehicle makes me giggle! Never did I think I would own an 'entry level' car and have it of this build quality and perfromance...with great looks to boot. Most bang for the buck BY FAR!!!!!! At work, people would ask whose little red sports car that is in the lot...imagine that....sports car!!! IT's a 4-door compact sedan! That tells you that this car screams 'performance' and delivers ten-fold!! I LOVE IT!!!! Stays flat in corners and it an absolute blast to drive on twisty roads. 2.3 liter 4 will blow away competition. We also looked at the Toyota Corolla. While nice, it just seemd too...geriatric maybe? We actually chose this car over a Subaru WRX...The interior is handsomely executed with great night lighting.
