    2002 Lexus RX 300 - AWD

Pros: Best looking leather interior, reclining rear seats, acceleration

Cons: Doesn't look macho, no 7 seat option, some cheap switch gear

Advice: Drive it after an ML320 and you'll be sold

I drove the ML320 , Land Rover disco and Jeep Grand Cherokee first. The ML interior is still not up to Mercedes sedan standards, and while the ride and handling are OK, it doesn't drive as smooth as the Lexus. The Land Rover looks great, drives OK (but the V8 is not particularly powerful and it is thirsty), has great jump seats for the kids, but is too high to fit in the garage. The Jeep looks great, and with a 7/70 powertrain warranty you have some piece of mind, but with the I6 engine there is no freeway power and the interior is cramped. How often are you really going to go seriously offroading ? The X5 looks great, but it's expensive ($10K more than the Lexus), and too many reliability problem stories. I thought the Lexus was a 'chick's truck', but with the rear spoiler it actually looks OK. The interior looks great (by far the best of the ones I drove), although there are still a couple of cheap Toyota switch gear pieces. What sold me on the RX300 was the way it drives. Power is similar to the ML320 and X5, but it weighs a lot less. Drives almost like a sedan - and since you'll spend 90%+ of your time on-road this is great. Yep, it's not a true off-roader - but it'll probably handle snow and dirt roads just fine for those camping and skiing trips. Reliability history is second to none. The dealer gave me a great discount (don't pay more than $1K - $1.5K over invoice) - which wworks out $5K less than a similarly equipped Benz and $10K versus the X5. Sure, get the Jeep if you're really going off road, but as an all-rounder you can't beat the Lexus.

    2002 Lexus ES 300 - Base

Pros: LUXURIOUS INTERIOR AND COMFORT OF RIDE

    Cons: NEED MORE HORSEPOWER

    Advice: DEFININATELY UPSCALE

EXCELLENT EXTERIOR AND INTERIOR STYLING...VERY LUXURIOUS...HOWEVER I AM DISAPPOINTED WITH ACCELERATION AND ABILITY TO PERFORM ON INCLINES. ALSO, CAR COULD NOT BE ORDERED WITH SUNSHADE APART FROM PACKAGE DEAL. PREVIOUS CARS WERE HONDA...CONSIDERED MERCEDES C240 AND ACURA TL...PURCHASED ES300

    2002 Lexus RX 300 - AWD

    Pros: The beautiful interior

Cons: Wind noise from the front vent of the sunroof.

Advice: Drive it only after you've driven another other SUV you're considering

I looked at two other vehicles, the Mercedes 320 and the Acura MDX. I was sold on the Acura until I seriously looked at and test drove the RX300. It's a nice looking vehicle that rides and handles better than some cars. It's very comfortable and the premium sound system is truly awesome. I feel I made the best choice and I'm enjoying my choice even after only 3 weeks of driving it.

    2002 Lexus IS 300 - Wagon

Pros: Steering, braking and general handling

Cons: No factory tuner version available (like M or AMG)

Advice: Great car and a good value in the low 30s.

This car is a sportier but slightly less roomy version of the BMW 325i sport wagon. If BMW offered all the wagon engines it offers in Europe (including both the 3 liter gas and diesel engines), I would have probably gone that route. That being said, the IS handling, steering and braking are phenominal and all this car needs is a supercharger to compete with the M3 on the track.

    2002 Lexus IS 300 - Manual Sedan

Pros: Sporty appearance and Lexus quality.

Cons: The lack of power compared to other cars in its class

Advice: Get the summer tire option

IS300 handles great, has decent performance and great brakes. The ride is firm but not to the point of being harsh. The car rear seating is tight. The over all quality of the car is superb! Lexus needs to increase the vehicles hp or offer a supercharger or turbo to better compete with vehicles being offered by BMW,Infiniti and Acura. My dealer could not find a car with the limited slip differential. Why Lexus does not include this option as stardard is beyond me. I would like to see Lexus offer some type of wood interior accents. The stereo system is excellent, however it's slightly weak in producing bass tones. The optional navigation system is difficult to program as it doesn't utilize a touch screen interface.

    2002 Lexus ES 300 - Base

    Pros: comfort

Cons: needs about an inch more head room

Advice: compare it to all the others in its class an you'll buy it.

Very quite and has a super luxury feel in all the switches and controls. The car reeks with quality. The only thing that I dislike is it could use a little more headroom.
