Pros: The total Jeep Package, high quality
Cons: I wish it was available 3 years ago when I got my Explorer
Advice: Get the Limited Edition, and don't worry about gas mileageWe were originally looking for an Escape because our other vehicle is an Explorer which I personnaly LOVE. Ford has been wonderful in supporting this vehicle. Once we started shopping we found that no dealers were willing to cut us a deal on an Escape. We dropped by a Jeep dealer and drove the Liberty, that's all she wrote. The Drive, Power, Comfort and the 360 degree turn radius sold us on the spot. For LESS than the cost of a basic Escape we got a 3.7 litre engine, heated leather seats, moon roof, power driver AND passenger seats, a great stereo, overhead computer,,etc... I still love my Explorer but this little baby just SINGS quality and performance.
Pros: Ride, comfort.
Cons: Wheels on cheaper models. Availability of full-time 4wd on Sport models.
Advice: Shop around for options and packages.Wonderful ride, compared to the Cherokee I drove before. Interior quality seems first rate. Ride is quite (in town), smooth and comfortable. Havn't yet done much highway driving. First tank resulted in 17.6mpg - in line with my expectations, again based on the Cherokee. Nice little features, especially remote opening of rear glass hatch. Steering very responsive. Some body lean around corners, but nothing unsettling. Had to settle for 2wd, as I couldn't find any Sport models with Selec-Trac (full-time) 4wd, and Limited too expensive for what you get.
Pros: Review and MSRP prices.
Cons: The High prices-Everywhere we went.
Advice: Computer price check at least three dealersMine is a 2002 Sahara. Very cute. Quick steering. Medium take off speed with the automatic. Small interior space for the driver. No side door arm rest. No leg room in the back seat.Fun to drive, but very bouncy.Extremely expensive. You can buy a new CRV Honda, Rava, Or new Jeep Liberty for this high price. Can you believe it? ROLL down windows-Noisy hard top with freeway speed and a flat window. But, It is fun and attracts many looks.
Cons: The tires needs to be somewhat bigger.
Advice: Buy whatever makes you happy.I bought a Jeep Liberty, it's ok. Kinda bumpy at times. The odometer moves faster than usual.
Pros: The improved suspension.
Cons: No choice of interior color.
Advice: Take a test drive! We purchased the Overland last September and have done a lot of long-distance traveling in it. It is extremely comfortable and drives well. A nice added feature is the split rear door/window so that the rear space can be accessed from the window lift. It looks beautiful and drives and rides even better. It's suspension and pick up is wonderful. Love everything about the vehicle.
Pros: The Infinity speakers
Cons: the possibility of roll over
Advice: Make sure this is the right vehicle for you.It drives great, looks good! It does make a strange noise when at an idle. You can feel it in the floor board and you can also hear it. We checked 2 others and they did the same thing. It drives like a Jeep, stiff suspension. For me, very fun, for Grandma and Grandpa, maybe not. When thinking about purchasing one of these, remember that these SUV's are Jeeps and perform like one.
Pros: The Tire sensor in the panel.
Cons: The setup menu on the cluster is too easy to activate.
Advice: Enjoy all of it! Don't just ride on the road, it's a great 4x4 - use it!The 2002 has improved pickup, suspension, and handling. Feature comforts are excellent and ergnomics have been much improved from the 1997.
