Pros: the engine runs strong...so far
Cons: the drop in quality of the izuzu product
Advice: stay away....stay far awayAfter about 6 months the front end began to rattle. Now after 1yr and 9 months it sounds like the front axles or some part of the suspention is going to fall out,and the front tires have began to bounce like two huge rabbits under my fenders anytime i go over a sharp bump. The transmission has developed a whinny sound you can hear in the last row of this 7 passenger disaster.(you know the sound, like a childs electric car that they ride in?)Well it's been 3 trips to the dealers repair shop #4 this monday. Too bad Izuzu sold it's sense quality breaking into the upper end suv's. I have owned izuzu before ..never again.
Pros: 2WD, 4WD, 4WD LO, and AWD available on the fly.
Cons: lack of side airbag canopy
Advice: You get more features for you money in this Isuzu model, vs, Pilot, Highlander, Santa Fe, Xterra, Escape, etc.I test drove over a dozen SUVs in the small to mid size category. I had never driven a Isuzu until today and I bought it. I found the features competitive or better than other SUVs in the market. It didn't have everything I wanted, so if Isuzu is listening, please add the side airbag canopy, otherwise I love it. Best features: it has 2WD, AWD, and 4WD availabe on the fly, 6-disc CD changer, large comfortable seats, powerful engine with reasonable gas mileage for its size. I recommend it.
Pros: The overall look! The outside and inside breathes luxury even though the Ascender is not a luxury SUV .
Cons: I'm 6'2' and the bucket seats are little bit stiff and uncomfortable. About a 7 out of 10.
Advice: Not all affordable cars are perfect. I rate the Ascender 8 out of 10. A definate must buy.We were looking for a SUV for sometime and for one reason or another we could never agree on the same one...Until the Ascender. The test drive was great! Took a little getting used to after driving a camero for the last 11 years. Gas mileage isn't great but if you want gas mileage, buy a civic. The car rides smooth and handles potholes very well. You sit above the traffic and get a great view of your surroundings. Parking is at a premium in Hawaii but the Ascender handles all parking stalls with ease. The dual climate control is great and cools the car down in record time. The car doesn't surpress the outside noise well but thats alright. Just play The Allman Brothers Greatest Hits on the CD player and drowned out all the outside distractions.
Pros: Compass & temp. in rearview mirror, smooth ride, heated seats, memory settings.
Cons: There are no controls on the steering wheel and the seats are a little hard.
Advice: Shop around, there's no better suv out there with all these options for this price. This SUV drives like a dream. The 6cylinder inline engine has great pickup and gets good gas mileage. The interior has faux wood, leather, compass, outside temp reading, automatic power locks, power mirrors & windows, sunroof, voice recorder, built-in garage door opener, sunglass holder, dual air controls, 6 cd player with 6 speakers, onstar, traction control, rear air conditioning, cruise control. There are too many more to name in this small space! The outside looks great too! Comes with 7 year powertrain ltd warranty. This is the best vehicle I've ever owned!! Great deal for the price!!!!
Advice: get itjust bought one after driving the pathfinder , 4 runner, montero, sequoia, and explorer. the ascender kicked their buts in horse power for the 6cyl. size is perfect and it was the only one with a usable 3rd row seat. got the LS package. comes standard with wood grain dash. love the power and luxury for the same or less money than the others
Pros: on star service. and satilite system.
Cons: The way the seat belt is mounted to the driver seat and not the side
Advice: If you can afford the gas, this is an excellent SUV for the money. This vehicle ride is very smooth, even on ruff roads. and the room inside when all the seats are down can haul like a pick up. gas milage is not very good and can use improvment. But the extra that are available like satilite on star system /traction control / driver information center/ seat position recall and much more was a lot for your money and a big selling point for me.
Pros: Easy access to switch to AW
Cons: A bit sluggish transmission
Advice: Go to an Isuzu dealer and not a twinI have about 4,000 miles on the Ascender LS and find it to be a delightful ride. Having just gotten past the blizzard of 2003 in Colorado it is also an excellent vehicle in the snow, deep snow. The I6 engine is powerful and smooth. The transmission could be better but it is adequate. The in dash 6-CD player is wonderful and the overall sound system quite nice. The interior is pleasant and very roomy! The warranty is very nice and much better than it's twins. I also saved quite a bit more by going to Isuzu rather than one of the twins. All in all, a great vehicle!
