Update on October 2009 review
Pros: Fun to drive, plenty room and good mpg!
Cons: Rough ride, poor sound proofing and dropping mileage. We now have owned our 2010 Prius for over one year. We have almost 25,000 miles on the car. Still like it a lot, but for some reason our mileage has dropped considerably over the past year - we're lucky to get an average of 36 mpg now. Haven't change driving habits or gas - will have dealership give it a good going over at the oil change coming up. With the price of gas, we still feel we've made a good decision in buying the vehicle.
Pros: Hybrid system
Cons: Missing feature: adaptive cruise controlBest car I have owned. Decent performance for a mid-size passengar car. Sync coupled with complementary Sirius and nice Sony sound system should be in a car $10k more. My real-world gas mileage comparable to EPA estimates: I average 37-41 each tankful in mild California weather. Cold weather or extensive AC use lowers mileage about 3-5 MPG. Blind spot, cross traffic, and rear view beeper/cameras quickly become welcome luxuries.
Oval On Wheels
Pros: The Build. Infact, all of its features.
Cons: The StereoThis phenomenon is a post-earth innovation. Its concept is simply inexplicable. Priced elegance of repute is understating its description, but nothing fascinates the buyer like Mercedes Benz CLS Class S 550 Sedan.
Loving it at 5,000 miles and 4 months
Pros: Hybrid drive train
Cons: Wish it had adaptive cruise control and ability to save iPod music to the onboard 'jukebox'Fifth and best car I've owned in my life (26 years driving). I'm taken by how 'normal' it handles and feels. Got all the Mercury bells-and-whistles and despite my nervousness with being surrounded by all the electronics of the hybrid and Sync systems, everything works flawlessly. I consistenly get 37-41 MPG on each tank with a mixture of city and freeway driving in the congested San Francisco Bay Area.
Dangerous on highway
Pros: Gas mileage
Cons: The car (performance, comfort, material quality)My Prius returns very good gas mileage but at a price. It is too slow to safely merge with freeway traffic. I can't pass anyone and I feel any accident may be my last (at speed). I will not buy another. The brakes are only fair and the car does not inspire confidence in spirited driving. Lastly, for what I paid I would expect a higher quality of materials in the interior.
Best hybrid, period!
Cons: REAR VISIONThe Prius has been a joy to own and drive. It is more than adequate for high-speed merging and handles well at all speeds. Our mileage for the entire time we have owned it has been over 40 MPG. The space available for luggage is large enough to take golf clubs and go away for 6 weeks. Love the 'hidden space' in back.
