Getting firsthand information from an actual car owner is one sure way to get an idea of car performance once it leaves the lot. Autobytel features real consumer reviews that give the unbiased experience of a car.
Cons: Harsh ride, low gas milage
Advice: You can find better cars until the high gas usage is fixed.I used a 2004 (rented) Neon for a week in FL. The car had a harsh ride and not all that good on gas. Only got about 20 MPG over the 5 days, my Buick with a 3.8 liter V6 will do better than that. Handeling was the strong point of this car, responded quite well to all commands. If Chrysler could give it a better ride and better gas milage I would buy one. If you need to rent a car go for the mid size before this one if you want a good ride.
Cons: to small of tires
Advice: go with RT option and larger rubberA very fun car to drive.
Pros: price and gas mileage
Cons: lack of durability
Advice: If you can afford to buy something more upscale, I would recommend you do that.I had transmission work done on this car at only 24,000 miles (covered under warranty) and the radio had to be replaced (also covered under waranty). Gas mileage is good, but brakes had to be replaced at 24,000 miles (I did majority of city driving). I hear a knocking from the engine at times that can't be 'fixed'. I'm wondering what will break next.
Pros: The 6 disc-CD changer and sound
Cons: no power windows in the back
Advice: Get the R/T and have some funGreat little car, lots of fun to drive. I never thought I would buy a Neon, but I wouldn't trade it in for any other car in it's price range. It handles well around corners and accelerates very well. The R/T version has a great stereo system. The sound is unbelievable for a factory system. The gas mileage is very good and its surprisingly roomy. You won't regret it.
Pros: The leather, and the sunroof
Cons: The name (I'm a dude driving a neon)
Advice: Make sure you get the SXTYou remember a few years ago.... geez, it's a totally different car now. I got leather seats, sunroof, spoiler, and a 4 disk in-dash cd changer. It's sluggish off the lights, but once you get going it's god pretty good speed.
Pros: power and handling (looks)
Cons: no back power windows
Advice: for the price and different models and options you have many choices to look at.the neon r/t is a fun car to drive, with its excellent handling and good power, you have a fast little sedan for the price.the r/t gives you comfort on the highway and turn around and drive on the back roads and it drives like a sports car.the neon is solid and tight even over ruff roads and seems it dose not get enough credit for being a good car with plenty of options from the se to the srt-4 and neither the honda, toyota, mazda ect, offer the base to the high performance r/t and srt-4,so maybe jurnalists should stick to writing and get out of the back pockets of honda and toyota and let people that know how to drive give there reviews and you will find that dodge neons will get better information about how much fun and room and comfort that they give for the price.
Pros: The nice exhaust note and great performance.
Cons: Moderate road noise at highway speeds.
Advice: Buy an SRT-4 if you can find one. If not the R/T is adequate. When I bought my R/T, i had no idea there was a much faster and all around better car than a regular Neon. Then I drove my buddy's SXT and thought there was something wrong with it. If you can't afford a SRT-4 or dont feel the need for all that speed, the R/T is your best bet. You should always have fun when you drive your vehicle, and the R/T delivers.
