Pros: 4 doors. It's a real truck, but room for the family.
Cons: It's a bit of a gas hog. Well, what do you expect?
Advice: If you're going to tow a lot of weight, get the 373 gears, towing package, and 5.9 motor. Otherwise the small V8 is really great. This is one cool truck. Bought in 10/01, now have 5K miles. Not a single problem, not even one. Runs like a clock, very comfortable, tons of room and storage. Got the 4.7 motor; plenty of power and wouldn't want to get worse gas mileage. Everyone complains of firm ride and gas consumption. Yes to both, however on the road I average 19, 14 combined. But you have to keep your foot out of it around town to get any mileage, otherwise you get 12. With a few hundred pounds in the box the ride is much improved. Well, it is a truck, isn't it? Seating and controls are very nice. That windshield really slopes, now doesn't it? Overall finish is superb, and the new styling is awesome. Mine is white, so I can put some custom paint on it when the weather warms up. 17' wheels are really cool, sits higher than the others, comes with everything I wanted standard. Got traction lock limited slip diff instead of 4X4; works great offroad too. Stereo with Infinity speakers is very nice. Stainless exhaust and a mean truck sound. I love my new truck, even better than I expected.
Pros: sits up higher than the other 4*4 pickups in the market
Cons: room in the back compared to others on the ext-cab model.
Advice: get the bucket seatsvery impressed with this truck. go with the diesel if you can. it does have a firm ride but for a heavy duty truck its still good. easy to change oil and check fluids. bucket seats are a must if you travel long distance. brand new driving alot in the city i'm getting 17+ mpg. the mirrors that telescope out are the best instead of the one's that are more conventional.
Pros: The engine
Cons: The brand name 'chevy'
Advice: buy this car it is nice even thought it is a chevyThe ride was great nice and comfortable and you could feel the power under your foot if you pushed the gas the thing took off it was nice and comforatable and easy to switch
Pros: Cab layout seemed to be okay.
Cons: the time spent in the dealer for warrantee repairs.
Advice: If dependability is essential, don't buy this pick-up.I have never had a vehicle towed during the first 3 years of use, that is until I got my S-10. I have never spent more time at the repair shop for warrantee repairs during the first 3 years of use, until I got my S-10. The only good thing is I leased it. I'll be getting rid of it soon, and I will not be considering another Chevy or other GM product. The pickup was comfortable enough, a little underpowered, but the flip side is it got reasonably good mileage. If you are looking for dependable transportation, this is not the truck for you.
Pros: LOOKS LIKE A REAL MAN'S TRUCK, AND 4 DOORS FOR FAMILY
Cons: IF THERE'S ANYTHING? GAS MILEAGE, BUT WHAT DO U EXPECT!!!
Advice: BUY ONE NOW!!!MY FIRST 'NEW' VEHICLE/TRUCK...I PLAN ON KEEPING IT UNTIL IT DIES...DROVE THE COMPETITIION, THEY, CHEVY/GMC ARE GOOD BUT I FELL IN LOVE W/ THE 2002 DODGE RAM QUAD CAB 4X4 SPORT (5.9L V8). IT'S A EYE CATCHER AND GETS A LOT OF QUESTIONS/ATTENTION FROM OTHER TRUCK LOVERS WHILE I'M OUT ON THE ROAD. THE 7YR/100,000 WARRANTY IS GREAT...JUST CAN'T WAIT TILL ITS OVER THEN IT'S TIME TO UPGRADE W/ ACCESSIORIES.....MORE POWER!!!! DRIVES GREAT AND HAS PLENTY OF POWER....WATCH OUT CHEVY AND FORD....DODGE IS THE NEW MAYOR IN TRUCKVILLE!!....THEN THE WORLD!!!!! (EVIL LAUGH) HAHAHA
Pros: Engine performance.
Cons: Some squeaks under the hood that I found, and fixed, when the dealer couldn't.
Advice: Get the best price you can and make them install some different tires, besides Firestone. Get the XLT as the soundproofing is good.Great engine response and gearing is perfect for its intended uses. Low gear is low enough to do some serious off-roading, while the engine just loafs along at 70 mph. It handles ok, but is a pickup, and, as such, is a little light in the rear end. Decent gas mileage, consistently 20 mpg combined with freeway driving over 70 mph. Year is 2000 and have 48 K miles with good reliability. Only problem has been a sticking ignition switch, fixed under warranty. I have the heavy duty suspension and the ride can be rough, but then again, we have some of the worst highways in Calif. The seats are very comfortable, particularly when compared to the seats in my wife's Toyota 4-Runner 4wd. The 4 door is great for access to the back of the cab. It is pretty quiet on the freeway with the XLT package. It has more soundproofing than the regular package. I think it is a great looking pickup.
Pros: Cummins Motor
Cons: Service and Suspension
Advice: Wait till the 2003 models come out! This Vehicle Drifts 6'-8' from side to side. Dodge is aware of the front and rear suspension problems that have plagued the Ram trucks for years. I replaced a clutch, preasure plate, etc.. within the first 60 days of use.
