2002 Ford Ranger - XLT 2.3L Standard (380A) 4x2 2dr Super Cab Stylesi
Pros: Engine performance.
Cons: Some squeaks under the hood that I found, and fixed, when the dealer couldn't.
Advice: Get the best price you can and make them install some different tires, besides Firestone. Get the XLT as the soundproofing is good.Great engine response and gearing is perfect for its intended uses. Low gear is low enough to do some serious off-roading, while the engine just loafs along at 70 mph. It handles ok, but is a pickup, and, as such, is a little light in the rear end. Decent gas mileage, consistently 20 mpg combined with freeway driving over 70 mph. Year is 2000 and have 48 K miles with good reliability. Only problem has been a sticking ignition switch, fixed under warranty. I have the heavy duty suspension and the ride can be rough, but then again, we have some of the worst highways in Calif. The seats are very comfortable, particularly when compared to the seats in my wife's Toyota 4-Runner 4wd. The 4 door is great for access to the back of the cab. It is pretty quiet on the freeway with the XLT package. It has more soundproofing than the regular package. I think it is a great looking pickup.
2002 Dodge Ram 3500 - ST 4x4 Quad Cab
Pros: Cummins Motor
Cons: Service and Suspension
Advice: Wait till the 2003 models come out! This Vehicle Drifts 6'-8' from side to side. Dodge is aware of the front and rear suspension problems that have plagued the Ram trucks for years. I replaced a clutch, preasure plate, etc.. within the first 60 days of use.
2002 Dodge Ram 1500 - ST 4x4 Quad Cab Short Box
Pros: Great 13' 4 wheel Disc Brakes
Cons: I do miss the Onstar on the GMC
Advice: Go for it!Had a Gmc. Test drove one just for the heck of it. Bought it,took it home, Love it. The Brakes and Steering are BEST I've used. Solid as a rock. (sorry chevy)Quiet , comfortable cab. Well designed back seat/storage area.20' wheels are unbelievable.
2002 Ford F-350 - Lariat 4x4 SD Crew Cab Long Box DRW
Pros: Styling (dually) and comfort
Cons: Engine presence
Advice: Unless you tow max weight buy 3:73 axles for improved fuel economy with the Powerstroke.Diesel is very nice, great to pull with. Very powerful.
2002 Ford F-150 SuperCrew - Lariat 4x2 SuperCrew Cab Styleside Styleside
Pros: The power
Cons: Can't think of anything
Advice: Budget gas money!!! LOLA 4600 pound vehicle that will lay the smackdown on Z-28's and Trans-Am's. The Supercharged 5.4 idles like a kitten but hammer it and it roars like a lion! It's got a pick-up body to haul things and it handles like a sports car. Thank god that SVT builds vehicles like this
2002 Toyota Tacoma - (M5) 4x4 Regular Cab
Pros: 4WD and a manual 5 speed
Cons: Engine Noise at high speeds 75 - 100mph
Advice: Get the extended cab so you'll have some room to throw your stuff, so it doesn't go flying all over when you go off roadGreat Truck. I was pleasantly surprise with the power of this 4 banger
2002 Chevrolet Avalanche 1500 - 4x2
Pros: Mid Gate
Advice: Order a Z66 & Get the seat warmer options. Great for the cold mornings.Fell in love with The Avalanche from day one. Rides better and quieter than any vehicle I have owned. Handles great - fits in the same area of the garage that the old Silverado did. Chevy did its homework on this one. Great vehicle!
