2011 Toyota RAV4 Shuffles Features, Maintains Gas Mileage
The Toyota RAV4 returns once again as a class-leader in the category of fuel efficiency. For 2011, Toyota shuffles up the available features offered for certain trims of this popular compact SUV. Learn what's new on the 2011 Toyota RAV4 and review specs, pricing and mpgs.
What' New - 2011 Toyota RAV4
The RAV4 went through a mid-cycle refresh in 2010. Though the changes weren't all that significant, Toyota seems satisfied with what the RAV4 has to offer for the time being. Cosmetically and mechanically, the 2011 Toyota RAV4 is identical to last year's model - save for the addition of a new brake-override system.
The Base model receives a new available options package (called the Base Plus Extra Value Package) that includes a moonroof, daytime running lights, roof rails, tinted rear glass, 17-inch alloy wheels, body-color door handles, satellite radio, six-disc CD changer and steering-wheel audio controls. Many of the features in this package were previously only available on Sport models. Curiously, Bluetooth and the six-disc CD changer are no longer available on the Sport trim.
2011 Toyota RAV4 Styling
The new RAV4 maintains the sleek appeal of the outgoing model. As one of the largest compact SUVs for the year, the vehicle offers more interior volume than much of the competition. However, some may find the side-swinging rear hatch a bit cumbersome when it comes to accessing all that storage space.
Thanks to its slightly larger size, the RAV4 is one of the few compact SUVs available with third-row seating. This can certainly be an advantage for larger families. Interior fit and finish and seat comfort is on par with the class. However, be advised that the tight-quartered third-row should be designated as a kids-only zone.

2011 Toyota RAV4 Performance
Engine specs for the RAV4 were bolstered in 2009, and the current model maintains a slight advantage in the categories of power and performance. The base 2.5-liter four-cylinder makes 179 horsepower. At 22 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway, fuel efficiency is better than most competitors.
For those who want towing capabilities (or just a little extra muscle), an optional 3.5-liter V-6 is available that musters 269 horsepower. In exchange for the 3,500-lbs. towing capacity, drivers will have to settle for 19 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway. Both engines are available with four-wheel drive - a feature that also affects mileage.
