Changes for the 2013 Toyota Prius c:
Toyota upgrades the Prius c model with standard SofTex leatherette trim on all except the base trim level. The same material is wrapped around the steering wheel on the top model.
The 2013 Toyota Prius c is a subcompact gas-electric hybrid offered in a 5-door hatchback body style and sold in four numerically named trim levels: One, Two, Three, and Four.
Standard equipment includes automatic climate control, LED taillights, digital gauge displays, and a 3.5-inch TFT information screen. The Prius c One is also equipped with power windows, power door locks, remote keyless entry, a tilt/telescopic steering wheel, and cloth seats. Bluetooth connectivity with music streaming capability is also included, along with a USB port, an iPod connection, an auxiliary audio input jack, a CD player, and a trip computer.
Upgrade to the Prius c Two and the diminutive little hybrid adds cruise control, a better sound system, a height adjuster for the driver’s seat, fancier seat fabric, and a center storage console with an armrest. The cargo area gains a light and a cover, and the rear seat folds in a 60/40 split. SofTex leatherette dashboard trim is new for 2013.
The Prius c Three comes with a 6.1-inch Display Audio color touchscreen radio, a navigation system, Entune multi-media services, a Smart Key passive entry and push-button ignition system, voice recognition technology, and more. This model can be upgraded with a power sunroof and aluminum wheels.
Choose the Prius c Four, and both the seats and steering wheel are wrapped in SofTex leatherette. This version of the car also gets fog lights, heated side mirrors, and aluminum wheels. A power sunroof is optional.
Engines and Transmissions:
A “full” hybrid capable of accelerating to 25 mph on electricity alone, the Prius c pairs a gasoline-fired 1.5-liter 4-cylinder engine with an electric assist motor and a nickel-metal hydride battery pack to generate a combined 99 horsepower. A continuously variable transmission (CVT) delivers that output to the car’s front wheels, and three driving modes are available: EV, Eco, and Normal.
Fuel Economy Ratings:
Drive in the city much? You’ll love the Prius c, which is EPA-rated to return 53 mpg in urban environments. On the highway, the car is expected to get 46 mpg, for a combined fuel economy rating of 50 mpg.
Every Prius c is equipped with nine airbags. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the Prius c provides 4-star-rated crash protection. This model is also a “Top Safety Pick” according to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).
For a small car, the Prius c packs plenty of technology. All versions have Smart Stop technology, which prevents acceleration when the brake pedal is pressed. The Three and Four models have a touchscreen infotainment system including iTunes song tagging, navigation, voice recognition technology, and Toyota Entune services with access to Pandora Internet radio, Bing online search, and more.
