A “full” hybrid capable of accelerating to 25 mph on electricity alone, the Prius c pairs a gasoline-fired 1.5-liter 4-cylinder engine with an electric assist motor and a nickel-metal hydride battery pack to generate a combined 99 horsepower. A continuously variable transmission (CVT) delivers that output to the car’s front wheels, and three driving modes are available: EV, Eco, and Normal.
