    2002 Toyota MR2 Spyder - (M5)

Pros: Top down on country roads with my 3 year old daughter in the front seat

Cons: It is hard to find fault with this car, but if I have to say anything, unable to drive in snow on stock tires due to poor handling, need special tires

Advice: Don't buy this as a primary car, you will regret it.

Excellent 2nd car, fun to drive and cheap (local mechanic can change the oil and do regular maintaince as compared to other exotic cars which you have to take to a dealer $$$$$) This is the only car which I have fallen in love with.

    Pros: The whole package

    Cons: No cargo space

Advice: Go for it, you won't be disapponited!

and now a word from/for the ladies...this car is a head-turner! You'll get a lot of attention with this Spyder! I owned a 1987 MR2 and thought that was fun. No comparison to this new Spyder! It looks, feels and handles better than the BMW Z4 that I test drove and, it has the Toyota name on it. A great value, a great car.

    2002 Toyota MR2 Spyder - (M5)

Pros: Easy operation of the convertible top.

Cons: No Cruse Control with the manual transmission.

Advice: If you go with the manual transmission, an after market Cruise Control is almost mandatory!!

The vehicle was a blast to drive. Acceleration is quick for a small engine. Braking is very quick and responsive. There is a tremendous sense of euphoria when the vehicle is running on a twisty highway with no traffic to bother you. The MR-2 is unique in the fact that in the 3 months I have owned mine, I have seen only one other on the road and that was on an interstate off ramp in Chicago. The down side of the vehicle is storage. The “cargo” area behind the seats is by far the biggest storage area in the vehicle. It will hold a small workout bag, provided that the bag isn’t full. The “storage area” over the spare tire in the front may hold a Twinkie or a pack of gum. Seriously, it is very small. This isn’t the car to take grocery shopping, but if you are looking at this vehicle, you already know that. Another big drawback in my opinion is the lack of a cruse control with the manual transmission. A local company installed an aftermarket cruise control on the car in about 4 hours, after saying that it couldn’t be done at least 3 times. The vehicle handles very well with the after market setup though. Going up moderately steep hills will not cause the MR-2 to drop a mile per hour in speed. Lastly, the vehicle has no lumbar support for either the driver or passenger, something that this car could definitely benefit from. The final word is that the vehicle is a dream to drive and guaranteed to turn many heads. As long as you can accept the limitations, your fun in the sun is guaranteed.

    2002 Toyota MR2 Spyder - (M5)

    Pros: Convertible Top, Styling, size

Cons: About enough cargo space to fit my bathing suit & a deflated beach ball

Advice: Its a Toyota. As long as you don't need to haul a lot of cargo or people, It is the most reliable in its make & price class

Fast & nimble, lightweight & powerful, with a smooth shifting 5spd manual transmission, pwr rack & pinion steering, disc brakes, and more. Very fun to drive ALL THE TIME, to & from work, to the beach, anywhere. Decent Stereo, Unibody construction, great gas mileage, low-maintenace, HIGH QUALITY. If you want a reliable convertible 2 seater for less than 25,000 THIS IS IT! The HondaS2000 runs about $8,000 higher. Sure its more powerful, but its also heavier & do we really need that extra boost for 8G's???

    2002 Toyota MR2 Spyder - (M5)

    Pros: driveability

Cons: the luggage space can only hold one change of u-trou and a toothbrush.

Advice: don't think about it unless you want to have fun driving. this is not for ANYTHING else.

corners well, awesome acceleration, stops on a dime. feel the road like crazy. a little bit pushed around in major cross winds due to light weight. looks like a toy but runs like a beast. toylike features may make it a less than long term member of the family.
