2002 Toyota Highlander - Base AWD
Submitted on 12/1/2004 8:56:00 AM- Summary
Pros: Full time all wheel drive.
Cons: LCD Odometer can be hard to read on bright sunny days.
Advice: Take a good test drive on different road surfaces. Not just around the block.
I live in Ontario, Canada and can honetly say that this vehicle has been a joy to drive since I got it. The AWD works flawlessly and the vehicle stability control has kicked in a couple of times to prevent possible accident situations during winter driving. Dependability has been a strong point. The only item that I have replaced is a burned out Day Time Running light bulb.

2002 Toyota Highlander - V6 FWD
Submitted on 10/23/2002 6:59:54 AM- Summary
Pros: It's just the right size-smaller than a van-larger than a regular car.
Cons: Bumping tractionless wheels upon acceleration in rain.
Advice: Avoid buying unnecessary features...you'll get a good car, for less.
Excellent acceleration...rapid engine rpm's give the undeserved impression of lack of power. Note this though: My 2WD vehicle tends to lose traction in the rain or any rapid acceleration on a slippery surface. Wish I'd gotten 4WD-was told by sales I didn't need it with our weather. Steering and handling are excellent. Corners fine...no top-heavy feeling as when driving my Plymouth Minivan. I agree on gas mileage comments...could be better. Very comfortable ride...takes potholes well. Quiet interior...you will not hear the motor start...that is almost a problem for someone who in older cars has depended on hearing it start. I agree that getting in and out is a little problematic. I am 6ft 1in & 200lbs. Styling is excellent, controls well-placed, beautifully finished exterior. Interior design is intelligent...fold down rear seats offer much cargo space and also form a sleeper-recliner with passenger seat.

2002 Toyota Highlander - V6 AWD
Submitted on 10/3/2002 5:00:18 PM- Summary
Pros: Performance and Control
Cons: Leg space exiting vehicle
Advice: Go for the 4x4 V6!
The Toyota Highlander is an excellent vehicle. For an SUV in its size and class, the price is great. The comfort and acceleration surprised me.The V6 4x4 has lots of power, and handles like a sedan. The Lexus RX300 (its cousin) has almost all the same features for much more. The only issue I have is fuel economy, I think it could do better. Overall, I know I made the right choice. Toyota has done an excellent job in designing the Highlander. Buy it!

2002 Toyota Highlander - V6 FWD
Submitted on 9/23/2002 10:09:36 AM- Summary
Pros: V6 power
Cons: Nothing... well MAYBE the sound system (CASS/CD/6 speakers) but it does the job.
Advice: Get the V6.
V6 power is perfect (I haven't towed anything yet, but should be OK for jet ski's, or small trailer), drive is very smooth with precise steering. All interior controls are right where you would expect and look/feel is great. I got the Steel Blue Metallic with Black/Grey int. and love it - (didnt like the Black dash/doortrim with biege int. combo). Has every option I wanted and got a great price through Costco. about $3,000 off sticker in Jan. 2002.
