Tips for Saving Money on 2010 Hybrid Cars

The list of 2010 hybrid cars is bigger and better than ever. While these eco-friendly autos certainly have the ability to save you plenty of money when it comes to fuel costs, the upfront pricing premiums that come with hybrid technology often make them more expensive then their gas-guzzling competitors. If you want to narrow the gap on the high costs associated with 2010 hybrid cars, then keep these following tips in mind:

Comparison Shop Several Hybrid Cars

A few years back, car shoppers had few options to choose from when it came to shopping for a hybrid vehicle. However, such slim pickings are now a thing of the past, with more than 20 hybrid models flooding the 2010 vehicle lineup. As such, if you have it in your head that a Toyota Prius is the best hybrid out there, then it may be worth your while to shop around. Not only may this result in a better deal, but it may also ultimately lead to a better car for your specific needs and wants.

For the 2010 model year, the most affordable hybrid is the 2010 Honda Insight. For those looking to get the most for their money, the Ford Fusion Hybrid and Toyota Camry Hybrid are also worth a look. In the hybrid SUV market, the Ford Escape Hybrid is likely to save you the most green.

2010 Hybrid Cars End-of-Year Sales

Patient car shoppers know that waiting until the end of the year to purchase a car can often result in deep discounts. This is because dealerships are trying to clear off their lots to make room for the next year of production models. While the steep demand associated with many hybrid vehicles may reduce the total savings earned from end-of-year discounts, your potential to save some money is certainly still there.

For the deepest discounts on hybrid technology, you may want to take a look at models that didn't sell too well for the year or failed to meet forecasted sales figures. From the 2010 crop of hybrids, the Honda Insight is perhaps your best bet when looking to enjoy end-of-year discounts.

Buy Used Hybrid Cars

An easy way to cut out the inflated cost of a hybrid vehicle is to buy used. Choosing to go with a 2008 or 2009 hybrid vehicle can often save you thousands of dollars in upfront costs. Most hybrids benefit from a good reputation for reliability, meaning that a year or two of age does little to diminish the quality of the vehicle. Plus, a number of 2010 hybrids - including the Toyota Camry Hybrid, Ford Escape Hybrid and Nissan Altima Hybrid - are nearly identical to their 2009 counterparts. As such, buying used often delivers the same vehicle at a dramatically reduced price.

2010 Hybrid Cars Tax Credits

Hybrid tax credits are a great way to reduce your total car bill. However, tax credits are no longer available on many hybrid cars. Essentially, government tax credits are extended to the first 60,000 hybrid vehicles that an automaker sells. Given this fact, tax credits are no longer available on Toyota, Lexus or Honda vehicles. Ford vehicles also are not eligible for tax credits as of April 1, 2010. For the remainder of the 2010 year, the models that offer the biggest hybrid tax savings include the Nissan Altima hybrid, Mercury Milan Hybrid and Mercury Mariner Hybrid.

As of December 31, 2010, the government hybrid tax credit program will be phased out completely.
