Changes for the 2015 Toyota Camry:
Toyota says it has redesigned or reengineered more than 2,000 of the 2015 Camry sedan’s parts, resulting in a restyled, more aerodynamic family sedan with a stronger structure, revised suspension tuning, recalibrated electric steering, and upgraded brakes. Inside, a quieter cabin with improved materials adds features, greater storage and connectivity solutions, and upgraded technology.
Toyota offers the 2015 Camry in LE, SE, XSE, and XLE trim. The LE and XLE are the mainstream models, the latter adding leather, upgraded trim, more sophisticated infotainment technology, Superchrome wheels, and more.
The SE and XSE are the sporty models, equipped with unique styling, a sport-tuned suspension, and downshift rev matching for the transmission’s Sport mode. Inside, sport-bolstered front seats, steering wheel paddle shifters, and Optitron gauges are standard. Toyota says the new XSE model is “the sportiest Camry yet,” equipped with an even stiffer suspension, revised steering and bigger 18-inch wheels. Leather seats with Ultrasuede inserts, heated front seats and an upgraded infotainment system are also standard.
Switching gears, the Camry Hybrid is available in LE, SE, and XLE trim levels. The Hybrid SE adds a sport-tuned suspension, a recalibrated stability control system, and Sport fabric seats with Sof-Tex inserts. Hybrid XLE models feature leather seats, heated front seats, LED running lights, 17-inch Superchrome wheels, and more.
Engines and Transmissions:
A 178-horsepower, 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine is standard, while the XSE and XLE can be optioned with a 268-horsepower, 3.5-liter V-6 engine. Both power plants are paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission delivering power to the front wheels.
The Camry Hybrid is equipped with a 2.5-liter Atkinson-cycle 4-cylinder engine, an electric assist motor, a nickel-metal hydride battery, and regenerative brakes. The continuously variable transmission (CVT) includes Normal, Eco, and EV driving modes, the latter allowing the car to travel up to 25 mph on electricity alone. Together, these components produce 200 horsepower, good enough to get the Camry Hybrid to 60 mph in a claimed 7.9 seconds.
All models include free scheduled maintenance for the first 2 years or 25,000 miles of ownership.
Fuel Economy Ratings:
According to Toyota, the Camry’s 4-cylinder engine gets 28 mpg in combined driving, while the V-6 engine returns 25 mpg. Get the Camry Hybrid and the car should get 40 mpg to 41 mpg, depending on the trim level.
Because of the Camry’s structural changes, full crash-test ratings are not available as this summary is written. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has not rated the car, and the NHTSA carries over only the Camry’s 4-star frontal impact rating.
With the 2015 Camry, Toyota adds new safety and upgraded infotainment options. Highlights include a premium sound system, a hard-drive navigation system, a wireless smartphone charging pad, and Entune App Suite access to Bing, Pandora, and more.
Safety-related upgrades include automatic high-beam headlights, a blind-spot warning system, a rear cross-traffic alert system, a lane departure warning system, and an adaptive cruise control system with Toyota’s Pre-Collision System technology. Safety Connect service is offered only for the Camry XLE, and includes Automatic Collision Notification and an SOS Emergency Assistance button.
