Getting firsthand information from an actual car owner is one sure way to get an idea of car performance once it leaves the lot. Autobytel features real consumer reviews that give the unbiased experience of a car.
Pros: Economy and performance. Both excellent.
Cons: Could use a little more room between seat and stering wheel.
Advice: take care of service and this vehicle will last you a long, long timeI knew when I took the car out for a test run this was the car my wife and I was looking for.
Pros: Heated leather seats.
Cons: Quick pickup.
Advice: get the SE V6 with performance package, its worth it.An Excellent buy for the money.
Pros: Toyota reputation.
Cons: No ABS brakes; front seats could be a bit longer if you are tall--not enough thigh room, paint quality, no tilt steering like Honda.. ..
Advice: Drive it--it's a great car. Very smooth for 4-cylinder; very reliable. Bought it used with 15,000 miles and no problems. First Toyota purchased.First time I ever drove a Toyota--very strong motor for a 4 cylinder compared to other 4 cylinders. Smooth ride. Loved driving it. Quiet ride and lots of room.
Cons: Everything else
Advice: Test drive/rent one for a long trip before you buy!If you have even the slightest bit of love for life, then stay away! This car has the ability to suck every bit of verve and fun out of you. I agree with others here -- rent one and drive it on a long trip first, because it will cripple you. Got the manual transmission to have just a slight bit of performance and this is the worst manual I have ever driven. Impossible friction point, long, rubbery throws, weak synchros. Had a suspension vibration from day one that could not be fixed. Cheap interior with lots of rattles. Paint dead after 3 years. Awful stereo. OK if all you care about is numb transport.
Pros: CD player
Advice: Drive before you buy.Perfect car.
Pros: The quiet engine - smooth acceleration, excellent gas mileage.
Cons: Could have improved seating though.
Advice: If you only worry about regular oil changes this is the car for you.Rides smooth as in the business class of an airplane gliding at 25000 feet (roomy like the business class too).
Pros: The smooth ride.
Cons: Everything else, boring interior and dash.
Advice: Toyotas are expensive for some reason, but I haven't figured it out. Check out Altima. My '02 Camry has been in the shop 3 times in the 3 weeks I've had it. There is terrible wind noise on the driver's side, the whole dash sounds like it will fall in my lap, squeaks and noises that drive me mad. I expect noises out of an old car but not after 22K miles! The smooth ride is better than any other sedan I drove, so if you can find one that doesn't sound like it is falling apart, then you've bought a great car. I just don't know if I'll ever buy another Toyota after this one.
