The point of a truck is to get work done by moving stuff around. At least, that's how generations of fervent pickup truck enthusiasts have justified their high priced expenditures. It's true that a lot of a pickup truck's work could probably be done with a somewhat smaller vehicle. But people tend to buy for the potential and not the reality. It's already a big purchase, so it seems like pickup truck buyers might as well go all out when it's time to upgrade. In that case, shoppers might as well start at the top. The list of the top 10 high horsepower trucks might not give the best bang for the buck, but we're not here to take price into account. For now, we're just interested in the best bang, period, from the most powerful trucks on the market.

The best high performance trucks don't bother to masquerade as anything else. They are not budget friendly, they burn through copious amounts of fuel, and, though they're comfortable, they aren't focused on being luxurious. And the truck manufacturers are totally unapologetic about all of this. They don't have to make concessions, because they know people want to buy powerful trucks. The truck engineers and designers know that people who want the trucks with most horsepower have a narrow focus. They want the most horsepower in a truck possible, and everything else that comes with it is a bonus. It's somewhat taken for granted that the truck will look nice, the cab will be comfortable, and maybe the engineers made a cursory effort to improve fuel economy. But it's understood that to carry lots of cargo, and perhaps tow a camper or a boat, the truck will use a lot of fuel. The highest horsepower truck on the market has no choice but to embrace the pay-to-play philosophy.
