If you're looking for a fast, sporty small vehicle, narrowing your search down to the top 10 gas guzzling compact cars might be an efficient strategy. Even if the cars themselves are terribly inefficient, focusing on the gas guzzlers is an easy way to sort out the cars that were designed and built with speed and style in mind. (That's not to say that all thirsty small cars are especially fast, or, on the other hand, to imply that all efficient cars are slow.) However, if your prized characteristics in a new car tend to be the opposite of efficiency, you might as well start by browsing amongst the cars that are inefficient by definition. This list of low gas mileage small cars is a good and entertaining place to start.

Even if you're not in the market for a new car, or if an inefficient car just isn't your thing, it's still fun to look at low MPG small cars and indulge in a few minutes of daydreaming. There's a reason there are still new low fuel economy small cars hitting the market, flaunting all the wisdom of efficiency and frugality. It's because fast, powerful small cars are a lot of fun, and as long as low gas mileage coupes are being built, there will be buyers. Fast, small cars are good for auto manufacturers, generally -- even if overall, they hurt the precious fuel economy averages that automakers have to maintain across their entire product lineups, these coupes are usually the kinds of cars that bring a manufacturer a lot of attention. Good low gas mileage compact cars are usually marketed toward the fun-loving type of consumer, and, if well done, this strategy can generate a lot of buzz for the brand. Even if gas guzzling coupes will cause pain at the pump, they'll almost certainly bring smiles, too.
