Getting firsthand information from an actual car owner is one sure way to get an idea of car performance once it leaves the lot. Autobytel features real consumer reviews that give the unbiased experience of a car.
Pros: The acceleration and handling
Cons: The Back seats should fold down
Advice: Get one fast....they are underpriced!I just traded in my '99 Cougar V6 for the WRX Sedan. While I enjoyed the Cougar, this WRX BLOWS IT AWAY!! The power, feel and handling of the car are amazing. It makes you feel like you own the road. I like the unassuming external appearance; it makes me smirk to pull up next to a Mustang, the new Acura, or even a BMW, knowing who's car has more giddy up.
Pros: Overall handling and performance
Cons: No scan feature on the radio
Advice: Test drive itThis car offers it all! If you like performance, fuel economy, and handling, this is the vehicle. I read all of the reviews, and for the most part they were accurate about the pluses and minuses of the design. Looks aren't the greatest, but the more you drive it, the better it looks.
Cons: Some corners cut on interior, finish, etc.
Advice: Test drive it-You'll know right away if this car is your cup of tea!The WRX Sport wagon is in my opinion one of the best values on the maket. All-wheel drive combined with a turbocharged boxer engine produces some serious fun. The car accelerates with great speed, especially upwards of 3000 rpm, and corners with total precision. The car reacts beautifully to the driver-as an added plus, the wagon offers a fair amount of cargo space, and all models have full power and a decent sound system. I actually look forward to driving, even in traffic!
Cons: Cargo space, pass trough needs to be bigger, or split rear seats would be appreciated
Advice: Make sure you get the wagon if you need cargo space. Other than that, the car is greatThis car is great, accelaration is excellent. Handling is great too, although I wouldn't mind it a little bit stiffer. Fuel ecomony is about what I expected, between 20 and 30 mpg mostly near 20 around town, but I drive a little heavy footed. Build quality is good, the only rattle I noticed in 10000miles was the spare tire squeaking on the metal bed in the trunk on my bumpy gravel driveway. I got some 17in wheels, OZ Prodrive P1's for those in the know that really add character and a few extra mph in corners. The stock tires are nothing special but I'm going to use them in winter...
Pros: All Wheel Drive
Cons: no power seat
Advice: Buy this car you will love it. you don't want to park the car It's so fun to drive.I recently bought a 2002 Impreza wrx sedan. I love this car. I previously owned a chevy blazer. I love how the awd keeps the car planted firmly on the ground. The seats are great, i jsut wish they had power seats but oh well no biggie. It's also fast and takes corners like it's on rails. You won't go wrong with this car. Oh and for all of you over 6 foot who are thinking of getting this car, go for it. You will have pleanty of room in it.
Pros: AWD with tons of torque
Cons: Vehicle seems less stable @ +110mph due - could be solved w/suspension upgrade
Advice: Skip carbon fiber trim and get the suspension upgrade + performance mufflerI replaced my 1998 Honda Prelude Type SH with this vehicle and never looked back. The straight line acceleration is incredible with minimal engine noise (unlike the Prelude VTEC)...and the AWD allows me an additional 10-20 mph cornering speed on my favorite roads. It is also a very friendly day-to-day driver...easy to get in and out of, 4 doors, large trunk, etc. Acquire one if you have the means. I cannot wait to drive it everyday!!
Pros: Mix of power and handling
Cons: sound of the trunk
Advice: keep an eye on your speedometer! My first experience of the WRX was on a drive from Santa Fe to Taos, NM. Traffic was crawling up the twisty Rio Grande Gorge at around 50mph with little chance to overtake. Finally as a clear straight came up I chopped down a couple of gears and the turbo kicked in like a swift kick in the pants. Before I knew it the car accelerated to 90 and I was back in my lane safe and sound. I was sold!!! The chassis is great, providing sure-footed handling. The seats are very comfortable and the Momo steering wheel is sweet. Sure, there are a couple of quibbles - the doors and trunk are pretty tinny and the body is an acquired taste (which did grow on me) but overall I cannot think of any car that offers as much fun for the buck as the WRX on the American market. How about a Mitsi Evolution, Nissan Godzilla or Lotus Elise for the U.S. market to see what the rest of the world gets?!?
