New 2010 Scion xD is Flashy and Fuel Thrifty
If you're looking for a compact car that is big on flash, then do yourself a favor and take a look at the new 2010 Scion xD. Just as important, the new 2010 Scion xD is affordable with a competitive base price and good fuel economy.New 2010 Scion xD Styling
The Scion xD brims with personality. On the outside, the vehicle offers an aggressive front end that is tempered by a rounded rear end and clean lines throughout. Add it up, and the vehicle does a great job of offering an exterior that is both sporty and cute at the same time.
Inside, the youth-oriented design continues. Though some materials are a bit low in quality, the dressed-up appeal offered by the sharp-looking dashboard and oodles of available options help make up for a few misgivings. Speaking of options, that's one of the main advantages of the xD, which offers available features that can't be found on any other competing vehicle. Standard equipment is fairly impressive, and includes tilt steering wheel, choice of three wheel cover options, cruise control, steering-wheel-mounted controls, six-speaker stereo and full power accessories.
Notable optional features include an upgrade stereo system with color touchscreen controls, satellite radio and GPS.
In terms of interior comfort, the xD isn't quite as roomy or posh as top models in the compact class. For example, the low ceiling may turn off taller drivers. However, rear seat passengers do get the benefit of sliding rear seats that can recline up to 10 degrees. Cargo room is a little sparse, with a maximum of 35.7 cubic feet.
New 2010 Scion xD Performance
The Scion xD can be described as a capable around-town ride. While the xD isn't going to win any drag races, it offers engine performance that is both confident and competent. The sole engine option for the 2010 xD is a 1.8-liter four-cylinder that makes do with 128 horsepower. Drivers can choose between a five-speed manual transmission and a four-speed automatic. The peppier manual delivers acceleration good enough to match top competitors like the Honda Fit.
At 27 mpg in the city, the Scion xD sips gas with the best of them when off the highway. However, an estimated 33 mpg on the highway is a bit on the low side for the compact class. As such, if your daily commute takes you above the 60 mph mark, then there are more fuel-efficient options to be had. However, if you prefer to stick to the city streets, then the Scion xD is about as fuel thrifty as they come.
New 2010 Scion xD Safety
Parents will be glad to hear that the Scion xD is now standard with stability control. Other default safety features include antilock brakes, brake assist, six airbags and electronic brake distribution. In crash tests performed by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the 2010 Scion xD earned a second-best rating of "Acceptable." If you want a stylish compact that offers enhanced safety, then consider the 2010 Honda Civic.
New 2010 Scion xD Pricing
The new 2010 Scion xD starts the bidding at $14,900. This price is more than competitive within its class. However, it should be noted that the vehicle's main draw - upgradeable features - can add increase the asking price fairly quickly. If you're looking for a bargain compact, take a look at the Kia Forte or Kia Soul. For additional power under the hood, take the Mazda MAZDA3 for a test drive. If you find the interior of the Scion xD too small, consider upgrading the larger Scion xB.
