Changes for the 2014 Scion tC:
Scion refreshes the tC sport coupe for 2014, equipping it with an angry new face that recalls the FR-S sports car. New wheels, new paint colors, (Absolutely Red and Blue Streak), improved interior materials with a two-tone color scheme, and added standard equipment also debut for 2014.
The expanded standard equipment list includes a new 6.1-inch touchscreen audio system with Bluetooth and HD Radio. As an option, a new Scion BeSpoke premium audio system is available, and includes Aha Radio, a navigation system, social media applications, and more.
Mechanically, the tC’s optional automatic transmission shifts faster than before, and matches revs on downshifts for a sportier effect. Scion has also revised the tC’s electric steering, modified the suspension tuning, and stiffened the structure to give the car improved handling and response.
Scion sells its cars in mono-spec trim, meaning the 2014 tC comes one way and that most options are installed by the selling dealership.
Standard equipment includes air conditioning, power windows, power door locks with remote keyless entry, power side mirrors with LED turn signal indicators, LED front accent lights, and LED brake lights. The driver sits in a height-adjustable seat facing a tilt/telescopic leather-wrapped steering wheel, and rear passengers are perched on a 60/40-split folding rear seat. A panoramic glass roof with a power sunroof is standard, along with cruise control, auto-off headlights, and a touchscreen audio system with HD Radio and Bluetooth connectivity, a USB port, and an auxiliary audio input jack.
Options include an upgraded infotainment system with navigation, floor mats, a cargo cover, cargo storage solutions, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and remote engine starting. Toyota Racing Development offers a set of 19-inch aluminum wheels and numerous performance upgrades, and the tC can be fitted with several interior and exterior cosmetic enhancements.
Engines and Transmissions:
Every tC has a 179-horsepower, 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox. A 6-speed automatic transmission is optional, upgraded for 2014 so that it shifts gears twice as fast and matches revs on downshifts. Scion provides two years or 25,000 miles of free scheduled maintenance for the tC.
Fuel Economy Ratings:
No matter which transmission the buyer selects, the 2014 tC is rated to get 26 mpg in combined driving.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) gives the 2014 tC a 5-star overall crash-test rating. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has not rated the updated the tC, but last year the car was called a “Top Safety Pick.”
In addition to knee airbags for the front seat occupants, the tC is equipped with Smart Stop technology that makes it impossible for the car to accelerate if the brake pedal is pressed.
The optional Scion BeSpoke infotainment system includes a voice-activated navigation system, mobile apps for Facebook and Twitter, Aha Radio with access to 30,000 Internet radio stations, personalized music channels, location-based assistance services, and more.
