Getting firsthand information from an actual car owner is one sure way to get an idea of car performance once it leaves the lot. Autobytel features real consumer reviews that give the unbiased experience of a car.
Pros: Power.Style.Fuel Economy.Price.
Cons: Storage space, but who cares this car is not meant for hauling.
Advice: Test drive it, and you'll see that Christian Wardlaw is an idiot. The car is awsome. The Saturn Sky is hands down, the best value for your dollar if your looking to purchase a fun, reliable, affordable, stylish coupe. I have had my redline for six months now, 15,000 kms and have had NO problems with the car. Power is great, its tremedous on fuel, and of course, the car is gorgeous. The auther of this article has an apparent bias towards import manufacturers that can be found in many of his statements, so disregard his review. I test drove the Honda S2000 and the Mazda MX-5, both of which could not stack up. Honda - too expensive for what you get, engine rev's ridiculously high and seems to do nothing with the high rpm. Mazda - underpowered, unrefined and ugly. I didnt get 'that feeling' with the Honda/Mazda. My advice, test drive all your potential rides and you'll see the Saturn is for you.
Advice: Get the Red Line, not the standard model. The extra HP is a great thrillVery nice car. Reliable and fun to drive. Shifter could be tighter.
Pros: starting to wonder
Cons: persisent rear differential oil leak and subsequent body cracks d/t repetitive lifts
Advice: if you own one...please check for body cracks(rocker panels) after it has been liftedLove the look of the car...but am not really enjoying it. It has been serviced 3 times for oil leaks (rear differntial oil leak) Apparently it is a problem with some of these cars. First leak noted at a few hundred kms. Fixed 3 times. Just picked it up and leaking again. MOST UPSETTING is that now underside of car (rocker panels) are CRACKED. Dealer is telling me i am responsible for these cracks in body even though bottom of car is unscathed. A body expert has told me it is because of the vertical lifting of the car. It has been hoisted up to 15 times in the last 5 months for repairs that are never repaired. A roof latch is asynchronous..can't fix problem- in 3 times for this as well. One side opens automatically and other side needs manual lifting...kinda defeats the purpose of the 'pop' roof.
Cons: No vanity mirror on passenger side visor
Advice: You better get in line to BUY, BUY, BUY!!!!!!First off, this car is not a dragster. The sky was intended for making tight mountain roads straight. Anyone that buys this car for a dragster is going to be disappointed. My wife and I have put 10,000 miles on our sky and have had nothing but a BLAST! The sky not only turns heads but it is possible we might have even broken a few necks, this needless to say, is because the sky is the most beautiful car on the road. One might say the suspension feels stiff, could this be because it has Bilstein dampers, hollow front and rear sway bars and 18 inch rims on low profile tires? YOU BET!!! The sky was designed as a intermediate true American sports car with looks for a decent price. This is just an all out fun car!
Cons: Quality, Comfort, practability, proformance
Advice: Don't buy till you drive one for a whileI only owned my sky for two months, every where I went I was a celebrity.Took me 40 minutes to get gas as everyone wanted to look. But reality set in with the most impractical car I have ever owned. Quality was poor as water leaked severly when washed. The top was a pain and the wind noise made it hard to hear the XM radio even when the top was us. A don't even try a cup of coffee holders. My wife couldn't drive it because the manual seat would not move. I had a radiator leak in the first week which caused me to be out of commission for several days. If GM had put as much thought in the inside and quality as the looks, they would have a super winner..Alas, not so. A mini corvette it is not with the same engine as our HHR.....and the HHR runs better.
Pros: The look, turns heads and gets plenty of attention.
Cons: Too tight, mirror low, allows headlights from other cars in your eyes, battery change difficult, radio sucks
Advice: Great car for the money, You get exactly what u pay forLacks power, but compensates on the appearence. Perfect for the price paid. They hit a home run with this one. Also front is too low, they need to raise it, or put something on nose bottom to stop scraping when pulling into driveways.
Pros: The appearance.
Cons: The engine power.
Advice: Save your money on the Redline! Opt for looks, if neccessary, and get the standard model.Let me start off by stating the obvious: this car is gorgeous! Now, beyond that, it is flawed in many ways. Take away its good looks and you've got a mediocre automobile, at best. For 175hp, it feels a lot more like the Ion's Ecotec 140hp engine in manual transmision. The pickup is decent, to say the least. The biggest drawback is how there is absolutely NO ROOM!! The ride is very uncomfortable. Now, I know that you can't expect roadsters to be chock full of room. But, you can't even put a cup in this baby. I just came back from test driving the Redline model. While the engine is definitely much stronger and the overall vehicle handles better, the turbo seems to sleep for a good 2-3 seconds before kicking in. Not responsive at all. I know that turbos will generally take a few instances to respond, but this is crazy! Sure, at 260hp, it packs a whollop, but you have to wait for it...wait for it...wait...there it is!! Reading up on the pros and cons of turbocharging a 4-cylinder engine, I found more cons than pros. Only the Mazda Speed 6 has been able to pull it off with absolutely no lag in the turbo. Oddly enough, I just purchased a Speed 6 and have been blowing away Acuras, BMWs and Audis left and right. That car is not only gorgeous, but at 285hp (4-cyl. turbo) it mechanically pulled off what the Sky Redline sadly couldn't!
