Backed by EPA grades of 20 mpg city/28 mpg highway/23 mpg combined, the 2015 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel has been named this year's Green Truck of the Year by the experts at Green Car Journal. The award was announced at the San Antonio Auto Show, where Ron Cogen, editor and publisher of Green Car Journal (and CarsOfChange.com), said that the 2015 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel "exemplifies what a ‘green’ truck should be."

Continued Cogen: "It’s a heavy-hitter that pulls off exceptional fuel economy with its impressive EcoDiesel engine and array of efficiency features like active grill shutters and aero suspension. Pickup buyers get the best of all worlds with the beefy torque and environmental performance offered by this full-size and stylish pickup.”

Getting down to the nitty-gritty here, the 2015 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel relies on an award-winning 3.0-liter, V6 engine that makes 240 hp and 420 lb.-ft. of torque, and with that power routed through a TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic transmission, the truck can still pull up to 9,200 lbs. when properly equipped. Further, that mark of 28 mpg represents the highest highway rating ever achieved by a full-size, half-ton pickup, and it tops the best grades from today's compact pickups, too.

Customers also should be aware that, in winning the recent Green Truck title, the 2015 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel beat out the next-gen 2015 Ford F-150 with its new 2.7-liter EcoBoost engine (among others).

Said Bob Hegbloom, president and CEO of the Ram Truck Brand: “The Ram 1500 EcoDiesel is an incredible success for Ram Truck and part of the brand’s long term strategy to design and engineer the best trucks you can buy with fuel economy and capability top of mind. We are thrilled to receive The Green Truck of the Year award, affirming our efficiency leadership in the truck market.”

Unsurprisingly, the 2015 Ram 1500 also helped the Ram roster become the fastest-growing full-size pickup line in the country in October; as Ram was running up a 33.5 percent increase in volume last month, on 39,834 sales, the Chevy Silverado saw a 10.1 advance and the Ford team actually lost a little ground, with deliveries sliding by about half a percent.
