Getting firsthand information from an actual car owner is one sure way to get an idea of car performance once it leaves the lot. Autobytel features real consumer reviews that give the unbiased experience of a car.
Pros: The look of the interior
Cons: Could only get it up to 260 horses
Advice: Get the at least the GTAmazing styling. The GT has great handling and acceleration. It comes with 224 horsepower but I got it up to about 260. Definitely a better buy than the toyota.
Cons: undetectable starting problem
Advice: make sure it starts before you buy iti recently bought this car, and havent driven it yet because it has been in the shop. there is a starting problem that no one can detect.i'll turn the key in the ignition, and it makes the right noise that its supposed to make, but then i dont hear the engine running, and it wont drive. after trying to start it a couple times it turns on correctly. i love this car and really hope the problem can be detected. if the problem isn't resolved, then this car sucks. i'm curious to know if anyone else has had this problem?
Pros: 4 seat hard top convertible
Cons: Trim items a bit flimsy.
Advice: buy sunglasses.Caveat: Just picked my convertible up over the weekend, so not a lot of experience to go on. But, I put 350 miles on it over a gorgeous weekend, top down the whole time. What blast. It has room for kids in the back and boy did they love it. A little tight, but we have another, bigger, car for longer family trips. But getting dropped off at school in the convertible made my son's day. The hard top makes it QUIET with the top up. Ride is smooth, good power. There aren't many 4 seater hard top convertibles on the market -- and none in this price range. Yeah, there's a little cheapness to some of the fit and finish itmes -- but that's what makes this so much more affordable than the C70 or the EOS. Highly recommended.
Cons: SEAT BELTS RIDE TOO HIGH ACROSS NECK IS ONLY COMPLAINT
Advice: CAR INSURANCE NOT TOO EXPENSIVE BUT BRINGS LOTS OF $$$ FOR GASGREAT HIGHWAY PERFORMANCE - EXCELLENT RIDE AND CORNERING. ACCELERATION WITHOUT TRACTION CONTROL ON CAN BE SCARY. TEST DRIVE ONE AND YOU'LL BE HOOKED. INTERIOR MATERIALS ARE FIRST-RATE - INTERIOR SEAT GTO LOGO IS CLASSY BUT EXTERIOR BADGING IS REALLY HARD TO IDENTIFY CAR AS A GTO. ONLY MINOR COMPLAINT IS DRIVER SIDE SEAT BELTS RIDE UP HIGH ACROSS NECK MAKING FREQUENT ADJUSTMENTS NECESSARY. GREAT FUN CAR TO DRIVE - ALWAYS GET PEOPLE ASKING TO LOOK @ IT WHEN GASSING UP (OFTEN) BUT REALLY GETS 22-23 MPG HIGHWAY. NOT BUILT FOR IN-TOWN OR LOCAL DRIVING - BUILT FOR SPEED. REAR WHEEL DRIVE AND DEFINITELY NOT A SNOW/ICE DRIVING CAR.
Advice: just Do it!What does a 63 year old guy weighing 230 do with a GXP Solstice? HAVE A BALL! And scare myself. Remember I grew up with Shelby's original Cobra, Junior Johnson and Ralph Earnheart, (Dale's dad for you kids!) Nothing has ever matched the jump for 60 to 80 like this. Your mind cannot keep up so be careful and legal. Anyone know where I can go to learn to drive this beast? Get yourself in one! And dont worry when the slow short trips flood the engine. They send 3 or more trucks to get it going!! And it does.
Pros: 6 CD-Changer
Cons: Haven't had the car for a year and had regular brake problems; power window problems, new starter, and new steering wheel/column.
Advice: Be sure to get regular service checks; pay attention to car's performance (warnings); and buy extended warranty.Absolutely loved everything about it! Especially just looking at it for the first time!
Pros: Interior feels like a cockpit dedicated to the driver. Great driver position.
Cons: Trunk, Cupholders behind driver position, window controls too far back.
Advice: Fun, fun, fun!!! If you need to haul stuff you will need a second vehicle.I purchased my 2006 Solstice in November 2006. I have driven 7,000 miles since then. The Solstice is great personal transportation. The car is the most fun I ever had behind the wheel. It handles like a dream. Get used to talking to strangers because everyone wants to know what it is. Old, young, and everyone in between like what they see. I drove the car on two long trips last year and it was a blast driving through the twisting Vermont mountain roads. Some say it doesn't have enough horsepower, but I say this 4 cylinder is deep. Drop it into forth for passing at highway speeds and tell me this car is not powerful; I bet you can't. It's not a race car anyway; it just looks like a racecar. Get used to taking drives for no reason other than having a fun day in the Solstice. Spring is coming and I will be cruising top down again soon. Solstice is top rated for resale, limited numbers will keep it that way. Not that resale matters to me because the Solstice is my long term fun car. Solstice surpassed the Miata in sales first year, and the GXP version will keep it that way. I purchased a small used wagon so my Solstice wouldn't be on the road in winter. 21 mpg city and 30 mpg highway (top down all the way). I enjoy watching people in much more expensive cars staring enviously at the Solstice at stop lights. Over a year later the Solstice is still a rare sight on the road which works for me.
