2002 Pontiac Grand Am
Cons: Lousy manufacturer support for known defects.Just after warranty expired, entire dash cover began peeling up all around its borders, including the lower center dash area. GM forums appear to report this is a known defect with these cars, however, GM has not offered any corrective assistance. Ignition switch tied into some security features is a failed item causing delayed starts requiring sitting for 11 minutes for the system to allow key to start the engine. Another over engineered feature that fails and causes extreme inconvenience.

2002 Pontiac Grand Am - GT Coupe
Pros: Bumpin' system, or Ram Air V6
Cons: Back seat access-but I don't sit back there so it doesn't bother me that much
Advice: Go for it! So much fun to drive.AWESOME, AWESOME, AWESOME! Awsome handling, performance, styling, everything. Bumpin' factory sound system (Monsoon). Ram Air is totally worth going for the GT.
2002 Pontiac Grand Am - SE1 Sedan
Pros: How sporty it looks and the power it does have
Cons: The money I have sunk into this vehicle...
Advice: Don't buy it!!!!This car has cost me more money than it is worth!!!! GM does not stand behind its product either after numerous complaints. I have had new brakes after one year, coil pack gone in it, signal light problems, terrible in winter, now I have problems with O2 sensor and excessive wheel speed sensor, needs new tie rods and the miles just keep adding on the odomoeter without accuracy. I would never recommend anyone buying this car. Please feel free to email me if you have also had any of these complaints! I would like to discuss them.... P.S. Head gaskets are famous for blowing in these also. Get AAA as soon as you can so you don't get stranded!!!!!
2002 Pontiac Grand Am - GT Sedan
Pros: Performance and Handling
Cons: Not a Thing
Advice: Get the GT version for style and 'Driving Exitement' factorI have owned 4 Grand ams, from 1989 to 2004. This 2002 GT replaced a 2004 se. Although I had no problems with the 2004, I simply was bored with it. The GT 2002 is so much fun to drive, and to look at, I plan on keeping it for a long, long time. I bought it with 21,000 miles on it and it looks and drives like a dream! For my budget this is the ultimate car.It handles tightly, It has excellent passing power( and the engine roars at passing speeds really sweet- if your into that). The interior is stylish and very practical, and everything works well. The GT suspension, dual exhaust, body cues, wheels, and sunroof makes this one hot car to drive and it attracts alot of attention. There are many cool features from the remote keyless entry, ABS and traction control, 4 wheel disk brakes, killer cd stereo, power sunroof, fog lights and so much more. This is a great value and a smart purchase. Myself , I've never experienced one of those 'lemon' Grand ams. Of the previous 3 that I've owned, they had no issues out of the routine.
2002 Pontiac Grand Am - GT1 Sedan
Pros: Sporty look and the power and speed
Cons: inside - kinda bland compared to the new vehicles out now!
Advice: buy the GT with Ram Air!!! AWESOME!!!I have had my Grand Am GT for 3 years now and I love it! Love the power!!!
2002 Pontiac Grand Am - GT Sedan
Pros: The awesome 8-speaker Monsoon high performance sound system!
Cons: No trip-tronic transmision option!
Advice: Get GT or GT1 models! You will be so much happierWhen I went to test drive this car that I had read about in the newspaper, I am a teenager and wanted something that looked sporty but wouldn't kill me on insurance I was thinking, ok, it's a four door family car, this is going to be lame, right? Wrong!!! I saw this car and I fell in love. It had everything I was looking for, the molding on the doors, sunroof, leather interior, power everything, the red gauges, cd player! I asked the guy there at the dealership to test drive it. I got in this thing, started up the engine, and oh my gosh, it's awesome, and by the way, besides the leather, sunroof, and added tape player if you go with the GT version you also get an upgraded 8-speaker Monsoon sound system that will absolutely blow your ears. At this point I'm thinking okay, sure it looks awesome but does it have any power? Let me tell you, if you get the GT version with the Ram-Air V6 engine it, you will get from point A to point B a whole lot faster!! One of the things that also caught my eye is the unique place for the ignition. It is up there right next to your stereo, I just thought that was pretty cool. The only thing that this car was missing was the triptronic option. For those of you who don't know what that is, it's where you can put it in automatic or slide the gearshift over and put it in a type of standard, except without the clutch. It pretty much comes on all the cars these days but I really can't complaing about my car! As you can tell from reading this you can tell that I love my car. The only advice I have for you is get the GT version, better engine, better sound system, leather, awesome car! (Even if you do what I did and buy it used!!!)
