2003 Oldsmobile Aurora - Base
Submitted on 11/27/2003 5:29:11 AM- Summary
Pros: the styling
Cons: the quality- it's very poor for a top of the line GM
Advice: Don't buy one!
I have owned a 2003 Oldsmobile Aurora 4.0 for a year now. It is among the worst cars I have ever owned. Although the car looks nice, the fit of the trim is very poor, the car has many rattles, and the customer service from GM has been very poor- in fact, they don't respond to my letters or phone calls. The overall quality of the Oldsmobile is very poor and not up to luxury car status. I am disappointed to say the very best. I would caution anyone considering an Oldsmobile (or GM) to be careful. This experience will make me consider a European luxury car next year for my next purchase. I am disappointed every morning I have to drive this GM. The time this GM has been in the shop has been excessive.

Pros: overall ride and performance
Cons: navigator placement is too low on dash , gas mileage lower than other luxury cars
Advice: grab one of these while you can - GM is making a big mistake discontinuing these beauties
This is a real sleeper - GM got it right here and should not discontinue it. Great performance and comfort. 4L is truely the best bang for the buck out there today.

2002 Oldsmobile Aurora - 3.5

Pros: Comfort & cockpit layout
Cons: Really not a thing
Advice: Plan to keep it as it will probably continue to depreciate more than some cars.
Tested both an Infiniti and Acura and the Aurora doesn't take a back seat in any category. Aurora comes with many neat standard features not even available on many other luxury mid-sizes. The 3.5L, although not a killer motor, is more than sufficient for most drivers and the fuel economy is quite good. With Oldsmobile being discontinued and the depreciation fairly high on used Auroras, the opportunity exists to get some super prices on a car worth much more than being sold for.

Pros: LOOKS
Cons: NOISY ENGINE AND HARD RIDING
Advice: DRIVE A TOYOTA AVALON AND ACURA T-L TO COMPARE
THIS CAR IS NOTHING LIKE THE BROCHURE STATES. I THOUGHT I WAS BUYING A MID SIZED LUXURY CAR AND WHAT I HAVE IS A CAR WITH EXCESSIVE ENGINE NOISE, VERY HARD RIDING ( SIMULAR TO A PICKUP TRUCK ) AND EXCESSIVE WIND NOISE WHEN DRIVING OVER 60 MPH. WHEN COMPARED TO CARS IN THIS PRICE RANGE , AVALON, ACURA T-L LINCOLN LS , INFINITY I-35 MAXIMA ECT. THIS CAR IS NO WHERE NEAR AS GOOD. THE INTERIOR IS PUT TOGETHER CHEAPLY, RATTLES, LOOSE PARTS AND VIBRATIONS ARE PRESENT IN THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT.

Pros: The lavish interior
Cons: Would prefer more precise on-center steering feel
Advice: You will find bargain prices for a car that will treat you so well
Wow...the best car I have ever purchased! I have owned the car for 22 months, and have had only two minor repair issues that were resolved quickly: small crack in console wood trim was replaced; noise in steering fixed with lubrication per service bulletin. While I basically put city miles on the car, I am averaging 22 mpg...totally unexpected! The interior is beautiful, while the exterior design is eye-catching. Anyone who has ridden with me in this gem cannot believe this is a domestic automobile. While I had briefly considered the Acura TL, the reports I had heard and read concerning its problem transmission made my choice perfectly clear. I will have no problem enjoying this car for three more years!
